I have been on facebook since 2007 and seen its different stages of growth and evolution... I joined in 2007 just with the intention of promoting my articles and that's what most members did those days and a little bit of socialising too.But as the members grew and socialising increased , it has now reached ridiculous and often amusing limits.

Some of my middle aged and older facebook friends who were seen in traditional sarees and salwar kameez have now graduated to mini skirts and shorts , uploading pics on a daily basis in different poses giving all details of their activities - In the restaurant dining with FB friend so and so or shopping at so and so mall...I mean it is too funny ! Apparently one ladies hubby was so angry at her dress , he stopped talking to her  LOL...

As for me, Except for a few music groups and scrabble I have stopped interacting socially and pressing like button simply because I am expected to do so even when I am rolling with laughter at some of the posts and pictures ..

Please share you own experiences with facebook...

One more advantage is not forgetting birthdays which I had been doing all the time and feel embarrassed later at not having wished my close friends and relatives...The birthday reminder on FB has solved that problem and this is one of the positives although there are as many negative points ..

True..,. true. it happened in my case also. My  marriage day has been reminded by not only by my daughters who are FB members, but also through some members known to me.

Mostly FB is all about sharing photos and different events of life. I use it to promote articles, with due course of time, it is all about finding school friends, which I found after joining FB. Whats app is better to share images and it has good privacy feature.

I found whats app more useful for sharing images. For promoting articles I found StumbleUpon also useful which in turn increases the web traffic.

Earlier we had formed a group where we would promote each other articles from different sites and it worked very well especially with those sites where the payment was made based on views..Later somehow it petered out.But such an initiative is there with other groups and it really works well when it is a group activity and of course sharing pictures and making a different albums which are there for your own reference. Some of the pictures I uploaded in the beginning have all got deleted frm my comp but are intact on my FB profile..

My Paintings were in tact. I don't know about their position now as I'm not active in FB. StumbleUpon has given me more coverage to my articles as it is one of the recognized websites by Google for boosting web traffic.

One more negative aspect of social sites is that they also are used by terror groups to recruit people esp youngsters who are impressionable promising them financial help and better life. This has happened many times in the past and even now with groups like ISIS and Taliban. They disguise themselves under other names so that there is no evidence ...

Yes. Very recently a Nigerian group was caught while sending mails promising heavy cash after giving their credit card number etc. The same is true in the case of terror groups . Social websites have become a platform for all kinds of  cheating.

This had me in splits....some people have a knack of coming up with the most appropriate funny ideas for any given situation...

The Nigerian phishing scam is as old as the internet itself. Before internet they operated via mail, and with the onset of IT, they quickly improvised and adapted themselves. Until date, hundreds of people have been duped by the Nigerians. Now an ongoing scam currently, in India, is to target middle-aged single women or men searching for a partner. These men or women are contacted by 'prospective' partners and charmed and wooed, and then money extracted on some pretext or other.

I see. Anyway you look at it, it is clear how the social websites are being used by the antisocial  elements. People should be aware of these evils and stop getting lured by the sops offered by these groups.

I doubt if Facebook had anything much to do with the Nigerian scam since posts are pretty open on Facebook and everyone can see them...

I was referring Social websites in general. It is possible that FB has nothing to do about these Nigerian groups.

I partly blame the youngsters for falling for such schemes...

Youngsters are fast spirited. They do not have an iota of idea what they are doing. They generally have some role model from the movies who celebrates every time he harasses some helpless creature. Youngsters are carried away by these and they imitate their idol in real life. This gives them a sense of achievement.

Facebook brings change in lifestyle?????

Recently on last Mondat Facebook had one billion users in one day which goes to show its popularity inspite of everything ...Every social site has both advantages and disadvantages. Personally speaking in the past 8 years that I have been on it, never have I had any bad experience expect some amusing and entertaining moments !

True. It was a record having one Billion users. This certainly is an index of FB's popularity. It is also true tthat social websites are an admixture of Good and bad. Then its's our duty to pick the good and leave aside the Bad.

What i have noticed that people want to showcase their life and this makes them pleasure to show that they are living a different life than others. Thatswhy they want to post every a minute thing that has happened in their life.
