The part I liked the best is that he did not think it beyond himself or demeaning to build his home with his own hands! A quality hat is rare and is becoming rarer!

But that is the case everywhere in Europe and other developed Western countries Kalyani, they build their own houses with some help from friends and relatives , even tend to farm land and vineyards since labor is extremely expensive ..It is only here in India that we depend on outside labor for everything probably because it is cheap !

Yes Usha, everyone does their own work in other countries, it is considered quite normal. I think they have quite a large number of shops that specialise in such items to help you build things by yourself, isn't it? In our country, I think it is more the attitude of being able to afford hiring others to do your work, and any work done by yourself is looked as being cheap. I don;t have a domestic help so I do all my washing and cleaning myself, so other ladies in my building look at me as if I am not in my right sense of mind!

That good Kalyani, those who have a feudal mindset can go ahead and judge others for all they want !!!, in fact I too do most of my housework all though we have a couple living in our outhouse.They both work elsewhere and help me out with the garden once a week and house work twice a week, the rest of the time it is me managing by myself...My husband too likes to potter around the garage and house doing something or the other when he is on leave,,,

Exactly....and I only wonder when will people realise that working around their home is good for themselves only and they can probably save a few bucks they might be paying to the doctor or to an expensive gym! :cheer:

There is no dignity attached to labor here in India unlike in the Western countries ...We see our politicians having people on hand and foot to take care of their needs and I have seen Princess Diana and other members of the Royal family carrying their own bags while traveling..This is something that needs to be taiught from childhood at home and school.

Indira Gandhi was an autocrat who was responsible for most of the corrupt practices....Her family ( Rajeev Gandhi's) is now following in her footsteps since it is a well known fact that Sonia Gandhi was close to her ..
