Cinema is also male dominated. But we had movies that had main role for women. Some examples: Razia Sultan, Putli Bai.

Here is a link that discusses such roles in a number of movies

LOL..In all fairness, Rekha and Jaya Bhaduri have done some good woman oriented roles like Umrao Jaan and Doosri Seeta...and so have Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil in a number of films !

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Very few such movies get hit in box office. People don't prefer female dominating movies in India.
Of all women centric films, Aradhana is my personal favourite even if it made Rajesh khanna a super star

Yes there are few films which are woman centric and get hit.One of such film I like is Chandni in which Sridevi looked tremendous and there was lesser scope of the heroes in the movie. There are many films she did which were woman centric like Ngina,Nigahein,Chaalbaaz and most of them were liked by the audience. :)
Hum de chuke Sanam....a film which made Aiswarya star overnight. Thought, it had two heroes, both Superstars, it was she who earned everyone's attention and appreciation

But its risky for film makers to make woman centric films as these are not liked by the audience. :)
I remember a movie "Rudali'. This is about woman paid to attend mourning sessions. They were paid to cry/ weep or mourn. 'Rudali' literally means- a weeping woman.

Sati anusuya and Jai Santoshi Maa may also be considered woman centric movies despite being on religious.themes.

These are exceptions most of the films get flopped if they are woman centric.
