Two wheeler vehicles are economical, can easily move to narrow lanes and are convenient. These need less space than four wheeler. In fact, personal four wheeler should be discouraged. These occupy more parking space and add to traffic problem. Instead public transport should be used.
Personally, I use two wheeler for very short distance near residence and use public transport for work place.

sandhya is absolutely right, cars have increased. The praise of normal car has been available at reasonable cost so that a middle class family can purchase
No doubt the number of cars on road has increased than it used to be in olden days but still the number of cars is less than the two wheeler. :)
