THose made by you for SMS can be used in your local messages.In common purpose they can't be used.

That is acceptable abbreviation used in offices, similarly ASAP, FYI, FYA etc are accepted and preferred rather than using long winding as soon as possible, for your information, for your action respectively!
But using abbreviations like c u at the mtg for see you at the meeting, tmw for tomorrow etc etc are NOT desirable!

Using well recognized and acceptable abbreviations is justified in most of the cases if not in all cases but using unknown abbreviations really adds to the problems and creates confusion in the minds of the readers of those texts and emails...!

exactly cu ,msg and y in place of why are only look better in sms not in emails.
