You said Meditation can be tried for getting rid of depression and its ill effects. That's all. Meditation will certainly take care of depression. If meditation fails in curing depression, there is something wrong in your way of doing Meditation.If meditation is done in the right way, the question of failing doesn't arise. One should bear it in mind that Yoga or Meditation should be practiced in a phase manner. One should not expect miracles overnight.

 It has been scientifically proved that Mediation has the potential to cure depression.

If by any chance this system fails, then you can think of other ways as you suggested.

Basically depression and its manifestation is not he same for all people who are suffering from depression ! The reasons are different, circumstances and personalities suffering from depression too are different . So, in effect there is no set treatment nor can one say that Yoga, meditation or medication is the only solution...One may have to try different methods until it helps them come out of it ..

Yes. Depression is triggered by many reasons. Depending on the individual's life style and eating  habits, causes for depression  too vary.

Yoga takes care of every aspect in an individual's life and offers effective solution. Take for example, insomnia is one of the reasons for depression. Yoga advises Sarvangasana,Shavasana and Surya Namaskara.

Pranayama itself has several varieties likeSurya Bhedana, Ujjayi, SitakariShitali, Bhastrika, BhramariMoorchcha and Plavani. Each of these varieties of Pranayama looks into individual's lifestyle, habits etc.

For example, Moorchcha, one of the wings of Pranayama brings the mind in the profound state of quietude. This state is absolutely necessary for arresting depression.

Hence Yoga is an indispensable therapeutic method that cures almost all ailments.

Let's not associate yoga with everything although yoga can play its role in curing the depressed patients. However, depression is a deep subject which must be looked in its wider aspect. Suppose some one is suffering depression due to physical inabilities how would he perform yoga exercises!

Physical disabilities will not come in the way. One can be rejuvenated. through laughter Yoga. It is based on the  principle voluntary laughter provides the same physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter. And depression is a psychological disorder.

Continuance health check ups, morning walk, healthy living styles automatically deletes all such unwanted errors of mental state such as depression as all these used to speedup mind and heart and make it completely healthier. Modern lifestyle also from time to time demands huge stress related activities and advent of pollution of every bit such as air, noise etc. could add more to it.

Morning walk, consistent overall habits like intake of food at a fixed time and adequate sleep will contribute to stress and depression free life.

Modern lifestyle can add a lot of stress to people old, middle aged or young because of the demands it makes...We find far too many things happening around us and when we are unable to cope with everything, there is a feeling of guilt , which brings in anxiety and depression ! I guess once you get rapped into a rat race you want to be with it all the time !
