Shampa, retention abilities are just not restricted to academic career. They will be useful in every sphere of life remembrance in your daily chores like maintaining finances of your home to your child. education.

Repetition makes all the difference. We remember a number of phone numbers because we use them regularly. Similarly if we are the person handling regular bank transactions, we can remember the account number without any difficulty. Here we need not  even associate any ideas with them.

You can remember by association with ideas. U got my adhar number recently. This is 12 digit number. Hard to remember. But now I remember this very easily.  Giw?  First two digits are my brother's year of birth. Next two dgits are my year of graduation. Then there is biggest number '9' . Two digits are first war of independence.  By such association, remembering the adhar numbe became very easy.

I too use something similar since I have a problem remembering numbers like Bank account no which are 13 digit long...although I am not able to memorise the entire number, I remember the last 6 numbers and that is good enough ..

It is difficultto rememberlong words and numbers. It becomes easier to remember by splitting in small parts. You can remember thirteen deigits by splitting  into  Four first digits + four next digits + three last digits. Remeber each part separately. Thus you will remember all the thirteen digits.

Of course, what you said is true for those things which we do regularly. The problem arises when we deal  with occasional things. Acronym way to remembering things will help.

To boost the memory power, Meditation and controlled breathing helped me a lot. I can remember and recall any incident and event that happened years ago.

I have never practiced meditation or worked on breathing but I remember everything from the age of 4-5.

The idea is to increase the retentive power. It may work

If you are able to remember without meditation, the purpose is served. For me Yoga worked.

Meditation and yoga are not for increasing retention power of the brain. I also remember almost everything from the age of 3-4  onwards and are miles away from both. Let us not praise yoga sky high for no rhyme or reason and do a disservice to it. My two 90+ relatives have excellent memories but have some physical problems and both have never done yoga.

True. Yoga is not the only way to boost memory. Once you suggested Acronym way of memorizing suits all. Personally I preferred Yoga and reaping the fruits of strong memory. A question of choice and suitability.
