Canada lies in the north part of the continent. Its capital is Ottawa. Much of Canada is c9vered with thick forests. Theses are found in the north around Hudson Bay and in the Rocky Mountains. Here the summers are short and warm, but the winters are long and cold. Now covers the ground or six or seven months in the year.
The most important trees of these forests are the Pine and Fir. They have tall, straight trunks. Their side branches are sloping. This helps the heavy snow to slide off. The leaves are like sharp, green needles. Even in winter the trees o not lose their leaves. The wood of these trees is soft. It is easy to cut. Some is used to make houses, furniture and matches. But most of the wood is used for making paper for newspapers and magazines.
The cutting own of trees is one mainly in winter. This work is called Lumbering. The men who cut down the trees are called Lumberjacks. They live in camps in the forests. In the camp there are many log-cabins or huts. The men sleep in some of these cabins. Then there is a kitchen and dining-room. In other cabin the men can watch television, listen to music or read when they have finished their work. But their lives are difficult and lonely. The Lumberjacks use large saws worked by electricity.
After trees are felled, side branches are cut off. Then the trunk is cut into several pieces called logs. The logs are dragged across the snow by tractors. They are left on the ice of the frozen rivers.
When spring comes it becomes warmer, the ice in the rivers melt and the logs float down the river. The lumberjacks work is not yet over. They must see that the logs get safely to the saw mills. Sometimes the rivers are so crowded with logs that pile up, one on top of the other. This is called a Log-Jam. The lumberjacks have to climb over the logs to free them. The logs then move down the stream again. This is a very dangerous job. If the lumberjack falls into the water, he can be crushed by the moving logs.
The saw mills re built on the banks of the rivers. At the mills the bigger logs are cut into planks. The smaller ones are crushed to make wood pulp. This pulp is used for making paper. When winter comes to an end and he logs reach the mills the lumberjacks work is over. They return to their families and homes. During the short summer they become farmers and fishermen. When inter comes again, they go back o their lumber camps in the forests and start to cut down the trees.
Is this what you are thinking at the moment? I know He must have found someone else. He is lying to me these days. He must be roaming around with another lady. All these doubts and there starts the impairment of a loving relationship.
Dipti was undergoing this difficult phase of her life where she was losing her trust on her partner. Is it Dipti’s fault or the circumstances have compelled her to think negative? What if her husband is coming late from work, what if he has female friends, what if she sees him talking to a female? Are these the reasons for her suspicion and is it valid? If yes, her relationship is going to be jeopardised sooner or later. Let’s look at few basic things which we can’t ignore and they happen intentionally or unintentionally when we encounter such situation:-
a) Lose of trust: - You start losing your trust on your partner/husband once you start looking at him with suspicion.
b) Making assumptions: - Second thing that starts is our assumptions which are meaningless and completely irrational. He is coming late from work, Ok that means he must be going with someone after his usual office hrs. I saw him talking to a female, which must be his new girlfriend.
c) Nothing is ignored: - You start observing trivial and trifling things/changes in him which you have never taken notice of or not ever bothered about. You start looking if he is got any new hair style, what uniform he is wearing, what perfume he uses etc.
d) Checking purse and other important stuff which you have never done before: - You tend to check his purse whether there is a slip containing some important number or somebody’s address. If you find one that too with a female name on it, there u lose your peace of mind and you start brainstorming & searching for something which does not exist at all. It does not stop here , if you don’t find anything further, you start searching everywhere, his laptop, telephone diary, office diary etc.
e) Keeping an eye on his phone: - There used to be a time when your husband’s phone ring, you used to give it to him, saying that it’s for you. Now the situation is, if it rings you will pick it up and will lie to him, it’s nothing to do with you, it’s for me. In the middle of the night, when your husband is fast asleep, you find nothing more important than to check his mobile messages, calls etc.
f) Developing communication gap: - With all the above things getting piled up in your mind, automatically you stop communication with him. Though he takes efforts to talk to you, it does not affect you
So these were things which started happening with Dipti which finally led to the end of her relationship, which could have been saved. Such a situation can be very detrimental for anyone and needs to be settled before it comes to an end. How? It’s not an easy task but let’s have a look on few things which we should never ignore when encountered with such a situation.
a) Don’t ignore the obvious: - you can see, he is working hard and is coming late from the work just for a happy and comfortable life for both of you.
b) Be patient: - Even If you are having some doubt, avoid losing your temper and don’t just get into unnecessary arguments with him. Though it’s difficult but try to be patient to behave normally with him.
c) Keep the communication doors open: -- Give him a chance to describe and clarify things to you. Keep the communication on from your side and listen to his part as well, don’t keep it for the last day.
d) Don’t encourage & justify your doubts: - Avoid justifying your doubts by looking for something or the other from his appointment diary, mobile, purse etc.
e) Introspect yourself: - Before reaching to any conclusion, ask yourself, examine yourself, what are you doing and is that right? It will help you to take your time and understand things in a more logical and rational way.
f) Stop assuming: - Keep yourself hundred miles away from false alarms. It’s always better to ask than to just sit and think, this might have happened, or this could be the case. You can be absolutely wrong.
I wouldn’t do this ever in my life, I will only do whatever my parents would say, I don’t believe in the concept of love marriage and many more such statements we do say at certain point of our life. Do we really stick to “Wouldn’t do ever, Will always do, I don’t believe” kind of things?
Case 1:-Saloni, eagerly waiting to be a bride in the next month, while sharing her thoughts and beliefs about love marriage 4 years ago amongst her friends. She said “I don’t believe in the concept of love marriage and would get married to whoever my parents decide for me”. Two years back she met a guy in her classmate with whom she fell in love with. She told her parents about it. Initially they didn’t like it and were not very happy about it. She went around with this guy for 2 years in spite of her parent’s reluctance and now she is going to be married to this fellow after a month. Recently one of her friends also got married but Saloni’s parents does not want to invite her in their daughter’s marriage. Saloni feels the same and says about her friend, “there is no harm in going for love marriage but she shouldn’t have done it in another caste.
Case 2:- Saurabh, son of an I.A.S officer, talks about his father,” My father is a very honest man and he just hates taking or giving bribe.” Saurabh had just appeared for his engineering exam and he could not do well in his exam. He was very worried about it and asked his father to do something about it. His father met the director and offered a lot of donation, sort of bribe for his son’s admission. Saurabh’s friends who knew that he didn’t do well in the exams, asked him how did he get the admission? He said “My father had to give them some money since it was really a big issue, it was the question of my future that’s why my father bribed the director, otherwise he wouldn’t ever do this, and I am sure about it”.
”Well it’s difficult to decide who is right or who is wrong here. But one thing is very clear that Saloni justified what she did and is justifying for not inviting her friend even. It’s not just about Saloni or Saurabh, it happens with everyone. The only thing is that if it happens with others, it’s unacceptable but if it’s with you, conveniently modify the so called your value system and principles.
We keep on changing our statements, our principles and some values which we decide to stick to forever in our life, as per our convenience or whenever required. We take the liberty of being a human being in that case but why we are never ready to accept this truth, May be because of:-
Ø Fear of loss of identity
Ø Fear of being defeated
Ø Fear of loss of self-esteem and confidence
Ø Fear of being denounced and defamed
Ø Fear of loss of respect in the society
There are many such fears one may encounter while accepting the fact of having changed as per one’s convenience. So does that mean we shouldn’t ever accept it? Ask this question to yourself and find out which one is easier for you, confessing the truth of your convenience or carrying on justifying it & denying it from others.
