TYPES OF SENTENCES
I know its hard to have grammar lessons, but don't worry this is just a basic grammar....just enjoy reading.
Definition Of A 'Sentence':
A sentence is a group of words that gives a complete meaning. ( Isn't it simple)
Types Of Sentences:
Such sentences can be divided into three categories as follows:
- Simple sentences
- Compound sentences
- complex sentences
Clauses:
There are two different types of classe such as:
- Main clause:
A main clause has a subject and a verb and it has a complete meaning.
For Example: He is an Indian.
2. Sub-Ordinate clause:
A sub-ordinate clause has a subject and a verb and but it has an incomplete meaning.
For Example: If you practice regularly(sub-ordinate), you will win.
Definition Of 'Phrase':
A phrase is a group of word but it has no subject, no verb and so. It also has an incomplete meaning.
For Example: On reaching home.
Definition Of Simple Sentence:
A main clause can be divided as a simple sentence and a main clause with a phrase is also called simple sentence.
For Example: Stella is writing.
Definition Of Compound Sentence:
Two or more main clauses which are joined by conjunctions is called compound sentence.
For Example: The dog saw the elephant, and at once, it barked.
Definition Of Complex Sentence:
A main clause with one or more sub-ordinate clauses is called complex sentence.
For Example: He came when she was looking.
