Narshimha rao had introduced the scheme of local area development funds at discretion of members of parliament. The scheme was intended for ensuring that the fund is used for development of all regions. But this is proving counter productive. The M.P is supposed to give more attention to legislative work and redressing people's problems by interaction with concerned authorities rather than supervising use of funds. It is better that exectuion of development be left to concerned authorities. Mor3eover, equal funds are given to all M.P.s irrerspective of needs of various constituencies.
Jai ram Ramesh has very aptly suggested abolistion of M.P. LAD scheme. It is time local fund scheme at disposal of M.P., MLA etc be reviewed and abolished.

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!
Abolishing LAD scheme in MP will be against infrastructural development of the country. This proposal should be rejected.
So what happens to the development work? How will the MPs pay for the develomental work ? The central government will become all powerful this way ! No doubt that MLA and MP funds are being misused left, right and center but I feel there should a regulatory body to monitor this which is independent otherwise there will be interference fro the central government for sure like it is now with everything from CBI onwards...

There are good legislators who utilise these funds, in my native constituency of Puri town, the coastal district of Odisha, here it is famous for birth place of Subhash Chandra Bose (netaji) and his ancestral home in which he lived still matriculation, his home is there since more than 150 years and from legislator's fund entire area to be converted into a tourist destination. Many developments works are on with these funds,
