It's latest trend and fashion...even the main highlight of comedy shows. Now, within 2 years, per capita income of Keralites have raised very high which may be one reason about the scary figures.
Earlier, political murders were heard only in Kannur. Now 'quotation' crimes have increased many fold, after that case, since now many such teams are available and people have began to think that if we have money, we need not worry...assign work to any quotation team!!!!!!!
Its shocking and sad ! Kerala has the highest literacy rate and is known to have a forward thinking population and abundant beauty of nature...With all that , there is something wrong somewhere..
Literacy and education do not improve your moral character nor make you good citizen. Education is a double edged sword. This helps the criminal as well as saint.
Earlier people do commit crimes for earning bread....still found in many states of India.
Now Kerala is not poor at all. In all conditions, living standards, per capital income, education, health conditions.......everything.....Kerala is the best state in India, No doubt.
Now greed has also increased.......now people are committing crimes for luxurious things. Many college students are also going that way......only because their pocket money is not enough!!!! Price of gold has increased many fold. So, many are behind stealing gold ornaments and it's very shocking that they are not doing it for food!!!!!
Then where is the fault?????
Kerala is not the best state in India , no doubt it is a literate state but its revenue comes mostly from natural resources like spices and sea food export and of course foreign revenue generated by non resident Keralites.It has no major Industries and so per capita income is low...

But if you see per capita income of backward people...meaning....normal working class, it's very very high!!!!
If we see major cities of India......people living inside it are having very standard of living. Isn't it? Earning very high. But what about outer areas? People still trying to get food...isn't it?
But if you come to Kerala, you can't find even 1-2 % people living in such low standards.
For a region to become 'rich', all should be able to earn a living....not only a class of people. Isn't it?
Actually, majority people here comes under a common band. Even though they are not living in a very high standard like city people, they are not the least...particularly if we are comparing backward classes of other states.
Still in UP and Bihar, a normal worker earns only 100-150 while he earns here above 450-650 minimum. It can make a big difference.
Also, if we leave major cities, we can see many waste lands without people or cultivations like barren land. Here, even if we travel in train, we saw such greenly lands without cultivation or without people, yet they are not barren. That may be the reason why it's known for its natural beauty. Isn't it?
Also, even if it's a small state, its density of population is very high. I think it holds second position, next to Bengal, (studied at school). Don't know present condition :P
