Mangalore is a very safe city and women need not have any fear going out alone late at night. There are times when I go for a drive late at night when I am unable to sleep and I see the police doing their rounds and at times they stop me and ask where I am from and then ask me to drive on. The crime we normally have is communal violence which has now considerably reduced . What do you think of your own city , is it safe at night ?

Given below are the various statistics of Mangalore and a safety index

Looking city of South India are safe than North.

I think the smaller cities tend to be safer because there is not much migrant or floating population ..It could be the same in the northern states as well. The problem is domestic violence which has no record since no one reports it whch happens everywhere but never spoken about ..

Of course...Domestic Violence is a silent crime. A woman, bound by marriage and the fear of society, tolerates mental and physical harassment. Its very unfortunate.

Yeah the issue of domestic violence is raising over the years. Nowadays its not only women but also men who suffers domestic violence. There are few cases reported in the newspapers where men have been at the receiving ends.

In many cases women forget about physical abuse once the husbands are good to them and any effort made by anyone to bring out the issue is nipped in the bud. I remember a case that happened here about a woman , mother of one of our students who would come with bruises at times . She confided in me that her husband would beat her up at the slightest pretext and many a times she had left home but he wd follow her , promise her never to hit her and bring her back. 2 years ago he pushed her so hard that her head and right side of her face and ear got severely damaged to the extent her jaw was broken and she lost her hearing capacity in the right ear. But even after that although she wanted to Lodge a complaint, his parents, brothers etc threatened , cajoled her not to do so ...Now he is back to his old ways  and the poor woman has become immune to everything around her. One can imagine the impact this would happen on her two children, they would hate their father !

That's very sad case and would surely effect the children. Hating father is just one of the issue. Children grown up under such atmosphere are likely to show behavioural problems.

Very true, in fact psycho analysts agree that it is better to separate and lead independent lives rather than make the home atmosphere miserable and unhealthy by being under the same roof.

That would be sensible thing to do under the circumstances. But unfortunately, in India there is still stigma associated with being a divorcee. As a result many women continue tolerating domestic violence.

Why women should tolerate authoritarianism and domestic violence perpetrated by men.?

Yes , what you said is true, Indian woman should change. She should be fearless and brave enough to question men.

Unfortunately for many women, Pati ( Husband) is the  living God..

Unfortunately or fortunately our men preen themselves when their wives treat them like Parameshwar. It serves the it purpose very well..I remember someone on this forum saying that his wife never goes anywhere because she has to look after and cook for him , was it rambabu or someone else ? Either way with husbands who o ly want their needs to be fulfilled , if not one can expect a volcano for sure. The poor wife has no other go but to grit her teeth and call him Parameshwar..

Men use such women for their advantage. It is a known fact that it is a male dominated society. But women should learn that she should not yield to the man's greed.

It is a male oriented world. Even in advanced countries women are beholden to men in many ways. A bold woman is looked down from male point of view and soon finds herself without support. The remedy lies in more men sharing the women chores which is increasingly done by today's generation males.

Yes. Today's men are helping and sharing with some of the chores done by women. But  we need such large hearted men  more and more in number.

No doubt that nature has made men and women different and men are physically stronger which makes them think that they are superior in all spheres of life. To a large extent one has to blame women too for fanning their egos. Our men  become verbally large hearted when it is a question of lecturing others..

In many cases women become the catalysts for domestic violence. Mothers and sisters inciting the man to subdue his wife through physical force. It happens all the time and this has to do with the feudal mindset that our society has still not been able to shake off inspite of education and liberalization.

For a change you have not blamed the pseudo secular, fully communal and entirely corrupt party for the instigations by women.

You seem to have a wholly distorted opinion of me, not that it matters because I know exactly what I mean ..

for anything wrong in Karnataka you always blame the pseudo secular, communal and Corrupt Congress. As you did not do so this time therefore I remaked the change. And I assure you I do not have a distorted opinion about you. These are harmless exchange of ideas.

When there is need to blame , I do blame but never without reason like you blame BJP for everything and rush forward to defend your favorite party even when they are in the wrong !!!

I have never blamed BJP. Congress is not my favourite party. I react to your constant accusations of one party and turning blind eye to the other.

Either way it is time to move on ...

I came across a news item today morning about an incident that took place in nagpada , a Mumbai suburb where someone had thrown a tava from the top floor of an apartment block that landed straight on a little girl walking on the street and greivous ly injured her . How could people be so inhuman and irresponsible?

If a Political Party does good to the people, that party will be honored and praised

Because BJP has done good to the Nation and its People, it has been appreciated ands praised.

What Congress has done ? What all it has done is for itself.

Thats is why, Congress has been unceremoniously Kicked out of Power.

This is so sad and unfortunate! Just because they leave in high-rise towers, doesn't mean that they can do anything! Such an irresponsible act!

Absolutely Kalyani, our civic sense and social responsibility is pathetic and I am sure the person will never own up . I hope the police find the person and shame them publicly!

I know a few case, where the lack of Civic sense glaringly visible. Flats built on the Roadside, the incumbents throw the garbage on the Roads and on the wayfarers.

A driver of a Motor Cycle was blinded for a moment because of the dust and garbage blinded him and met with an accident.

India is a country filled with people who are extremely selfish and laws made to suit these people so that they can get away with murder ..
