Recent reports about unrest concern the agitation in the Hindi belt to remove the English paper in the Civil Services Examination. English is an international language and it is foolish to argue that the IAS officers can be appointed without English knowledge. Can we do away with the test, as demanded, and if the Central Government gives in, what will happen to the South Indian candidates?
It's a new government at the center still wet behind the ears. How it's going to deal with this has to be seen. Till then wait and watch.

now a days English is known in most countries of world so Indians like to adopt and follow English, tomorrow Chinese will grow then Indian start following and adopting Chinese, then may be French, Russian and so on. This shows that Indians have nothing of their own, they depend and follow others. Then what is the meaning of studying in Hindi if they have to clear all exams in English.

I had initiated a thread on this issue a few days back but there was no response. The issue is that the students in English medium are at a relative advantage over those who select Hindi or some other medium. There is also urban bias. Also the mathematics and science students are in better position. Also the Hindi medium candidates get translated version of some papers, which is not so accurate and is obtained by Google translation.
The candidates in Hindi and other languages could also be very capable. It is not just that they should suffer only for lack of proficiency in English. English is necessary but not necessarily very high proficiency in the language. As long as English medium and Hindi medium institutions exist, there will be candidates from english medium and Hindi/ regional languages medium both. It is unfair that English medium candidates get more advantage.
Government needs to look in the matter and intrvene for giving justice to all candidates.

I am sure that the issue will be resolved. The agitating candidates have just demand. It is not their fault that they did not get education in English medium..
But it is advisable that parents should educate thir children through English medium schools accordig to CBSE syllabus and opt for mathematics and science subjects. These days even engineers and doctors are appearing in I.A.S. competition. A candidate from arts stream especially one of Hindi medium will ot be able to compete with them.

A system has to be evolved where all will get an opportunity to compete in any competitive exam. Yes I agree, the parents also should have forethought to see that their children are to educated in a useful manner that they are capable of competing in any platform. For this of course English medium education fits well.

Nobody says English is unnecessary. even Hindi and regional languages candidates know English. The issue is whether undue and excessive stress on English is justified to the extent that this discriminates against the Hindi/ regional languages candidates.

The South does not want Hindi, the North does not want English. Let either Gujarati or Bengali be introduced. Gujaratis will not complain because hardly anyone goes into the Civil Services from that State. About Bengalis I am not sure. But it is time other parts of India also got attention other than North and South. BJP will give in to North's demand- how we shall wait to watch.
