Intimacy starts only when there is trust between two people. As the intimacy increases closeness increases.

I guess you would everything possible within your limits to get close to and more importantly stay close to someone you love, but it has to be mutual , otherwise there is no point !

Yes if the other person doesn't reciprocate your efforts, you cannot attain true closeness. It takes two to tango.
