Non cooperation movement in which the entire nation participated was the major reason for freedom. The Britishers could not rule unless Indians participated in army and administration under British control. The Indians would either not cooperate and even if they cooperated, they could not be relied upon. The mutiny by navy in Mumbai made this very clear to British. They had no option but to quit.
