I remember that once there was a very odd practice in Bihar. They would kidnap some marriage boy and marry him to their daughter. This was to avoid unreasonable dowry demands from groom's family. Once the marriage was performed, all had to accept the reality. Although the groom's parents and family would not like such happening, but they accepted the fact of marriage and would treat the bride well.
