Good decision taken by govt.More to be done .
It is a good decision to be welcomed. The government needs to be more proactive in this regard. If one looks at the enormous health cost that a nation has to bear, the measures so far taken have not yet resulted in increasing awareness about the hazards of smoking.
I think local companies also should be discouraged if our government has a true honesty towards the health of its citizens.

We have an anti-smoking legislation. Here again we face the same problem of slack enforcement of the law.Smoking at public places is a cognizable offence but the smokers simply don't care a damn for it!!
Good decisions are always welcomed!!
Smoking is a very bad habit. Hope people get more aareness of it and quit smoking.....

Thanks 'n' Regards,
Deepti.
Banning FDI in cigarette making is going to local companies and farmers too.Farmers will get less price for their tobacco crop.Local companies will be deprived of funds if they wanted to switch from their main business to other business. For example: ITC which is primarily cigarette company.but, now concentrating in FMCG. :(
Foreign investment- direct or indirect- is acceptable only in key infrastructure industries and not in area like smoking, consumer goods etc. I think foreign direct Investments should be banned in all industries except infrastructure.
