Here's a link which says social media makes us less productive and more creative... click here http://www.blogher.com/whoa-social-media-changes-our-brain?from=comments
I agree to this that social media does lessen our productivity and also mars the quality of work. Even in many organizations, social networking sites are blocked..but does it still stop or prevent people from using social media. Now every one owns a smart phone with internet connectivity. So blocking sites in office doesn't really help. What is your take on this issue?
In my case Social media has boosted my productivity and sharpened my creativity. I do not believe in using the work place connectivity.
Partly true in my case too..without using social media or other similar sites, I would not come to know about Boddunan or other similar sites. But, while working in an IT giant, I never really used social media not even through my phone..because it does distract me.
In my case it's fully true because the social media connection paved way for many private jobs which keeps me occupied all the day.
Okay so for you access to social media has done more good. Well, we need to see what others have to say about this.
One thing is for certain. Those who use work place connectivity just for the thrill derived from social media will certainly lose their office productivity. This fact I know. That's why I make my own arrangement to get the best of two worlds.
Yes, that is why certain organizations completely shut out internet access and it is given only on a project basis. Ideally as Instructional Designers, we needed access to internet while working, but for those who do programming and all, they weren't allowed to use internet. But I also feel we internet to get access to news and other sites which help us in furthering our knowledge.
Even for furthering and updating my knowledge I use my own computer and I Pad. Because of my not using office connection, I'm very forward in office productivity which makes my Boss happy.
In Infosys..we weren't allowed to carry our own laptop for security issues, certainly we had no choice but to use computer to work. But work related research is and was always encouraged.
INFOSYS is justified. Narayana muthy has his own set of work culture that made it a giant in IT sphere.
Yes, but again in Accenture, people can freely access internet. But the point is internet access should be given and it is okay if social media is blocked at work place..I believe one should concentrate on work rather than updating status on social media..be it any such site.
Remember your job is your bread earner. You have to earn every penny for the work. Not for enjoying your social media. In this connection, i have my own norms of discipline. This paid me dividends and continue to do so.
Yes, I too believe and agree with you and have said the same in the last post. Social media can be accessed/used at home. We should respect the company policies. However, if I have to answer per the thread title, I would say partly yes for those who are hooked on to such sites, for them productivity definitely suffers and for those who do their work diligently and can make good use of internet for their benefit..social media doesn't effect them.
Thankfully using the net diligently has come naturally for me. There are different slots for different purposes in my life. I will never violate the ethical part of Internet.
Me too..while working I concentrate on my work and others thing can be done at leisure time.
Using your own computer is the safest bet. Here no body can point out an accusing finger. The question of losing the productivity in the office doesn't arise.
But only if you are allowed to carry your own laptop...yes there's no problem..also if you give quality work with minimal errors, then using social media wouldn't become a constraint.
I work from my home.
:) that says it all..working from has its own advantages...
All he advantages you can say. I can work for my local clients as well as social net working. I couldn't have asked for more.
Yes, I know working from home is sometimes the best option, even I am working from home- as a freelancer and I see, this way I can take care of my baby and manage to do work. I can have best of both worlds. I think many companies are allowing work from home now..and days are not far when most employees would ask for a work from home option.
I think we discussed all the relevant aspects. There is nothing more to say from my side, unless you start a hitherto undiscussed issue.

Yes, since no other member is adding anything other than what we have already said, let us end this discussion here or wait for others to chime in.

No. I give more importance to professional work. Hence yesterday, I could not log in Boddunan. I give preference to professioal work and come to Boddunan and social sites when I have spare time.

It's obvious that you have your own priorities and preferences. This says it all.

Here's a link which says social media makes us less productive and more creative... click here http://www.blogher.com/whoa-social-media-changes-our-brain?from=commentsI view social media in different perspective, I find it more engaging and more creative like, Google+ where I can find tags to reach to different popular topics, in FB generally I prefer watching events, twitter for sharing links and so on.

How one uses social networking sites or media is one's own choice so we should not question about his choice bigbro :)

Definitely. I agree with you. The thread asks about using social sites in the office hours and how it eats away your office productivity. I use my personal computer in my home. This will not effect an office productivity.

All your points are valid, different social media sites prove to be useful in different way and serve different purpose. But do you feel that if you are allowed to use social media at work be it at home ( as in work from home scenario) or at your work place will affect your productivity?
