Friends, it is shocking that to meet the supply in metro cities, and for more benefits the Indian farmers are injecting vegetables with oxytocin. The vegetable which normally take 10 -15 days to get prepared for using, farmers inject them with oxytocin on the very first day and it get prepared in 2-3 days. Such vegetable produced is not good for health. Our government should be strict on this and the faulty farmers should be punished.

Yeah it has been in practice since long..since oxytocin is cheap and readily available and cheaper as compared to fertilizers, farmers are making use of this female hormone..popularly known as love hormone into veggies..posing threat to our health.

The practice of injecting the vegetables with chemicals to make them ripe in a short time and adding artificial colors to impart fresh look to the vegetables is an old one about which everybody including law enforcing authorities are aware. Nothing precious has been done in this direction.

In fact, I saw that now retail shoppe such as big bazzar and Dmart are selling fruit and Veggie spray wash to clean veggies. Yet another trap of consumerism. First give more than required amount of pesticide, inject oxytocin to make veggies and fruit look bigger and ripen fruits and veggies before time and then flood the market with costly fruits and veggie spray wash!

In whatever way you look, this practice of injecting chemicals to boost their appearance is rampant everywhere including prestigious outlets located in colorful Malls.
Yes, and to camouflage the pitfall of sale of vegetables and fruits covered with high amount of pesticide, we now have shops selling organic products as a substitute to these veggies n fruits and at a higher rate.

The problem with organic vegetables is, veggies can't be produced in bulk quantity as it involves heay expenditure. That's why they are expensive and they are available in select outlets of select cities.

Absolutely correct..since the production is slower..price rise is bound to happen. But not everybody can afford organic products, eatables...something needs to be done to correct this erring situation in the near future.

Growing our own garden is the only solution. Small quantities of vegetables can be grown in pots.
These injected vegetables denied required glucose which we normally get from these vegetables.

Yesterday I read that 99% of mangoes in the country are ripened by using Calcium carbide as the are harvested while still unripe. It is recommended that all fruits and vegetables must be washed many times before consumption for safety sake. Laws can be made but how do you implement them in such large country.
