Mahatma Gandhi believed that anything that does not help the poorest is of no use. all government policies must take the poorest in consideration.
But Gandhian thoughts are also one sided. Often the poorest are in their condition because of lethargy. Many religious and charitable organizations are happy to keep them in miserable condition so that their business of charity goes on. Mother Teresa has once said that once poverty ends, there would be nothing for her organization to do.
The best policy is to help the poor come out of their miserable condition with their own efforts. There is a Chinese proverb- If you give fish to some body, you feed him only once. But if you teach him fishing, you feed him all the life.

Really nice thoughts shared sir, I loved each and every word of it :) :)
Yes, what you told is absolutely right. I always give alms to old people, not young people. Young people can work, but it's not the case of helpless old people. Yet, help people if they ask money for treatment or daughter's marriage, though I am not sure they are telling truth.
There are many firms all over India giving jobs to even handicapped people. My parents doing fireworks business, it's a small firm.....In festival seasons, may be around 30 people. Yet, majority are ladies, most of them are very poor and their husbands drunkards. They use to save money here...for example till Diwali or till festival season. Then, they buy gold ornaments or something else, as a savings for their kid's marriage. Yes, my parents are also doing the same job.

God provides food to the people who actually deserves it. God can never be unfair. He always do justice to all. I don't agree with the above quotes.

I hope that the above quotes were said by Gandhiji after looking at the tendency and human behaviour. We can make out different meanings from the above sentence.
May be he wants people to work and earn rather than to blame god and do worst to others. Etc....

"If you give fish to some body, you feed him only once. But if you teach him fishing, you feed him all the life. " is the most appropriate quote and i would say this "Wow what a quote."
