Do you prefer to stay away from your home town?

Staying away from home town as a part of job has both advantages and disadvantages. Advantage is that you never get time or opportunity to interfere in the problems or privacy of your relatives or neighbours. You are getting more privacy in your life. Also, you get royal treatment whenever you return home. But the disadvantage is, in a strange city you have to live among a group of strangers, no get-togethers and hence often feel lonely. Yet, let me ask you...Which life do you prefer.....working/staying in home town or in another place?

I prefer to stay away from home
one of the main reasons is that I am from a really small town and the opportunities here are near to zero
However I will come back once or twice a month
If I have long break I can come back and spend time with them

Also, I noticed that most of my female friends prefer to stay near home
while most of my male friends prefer to stay away from home :laugh:


Even I too make a regular visit at my hometown two three times a year. Instead of making short and frequent visit to my hometown, I try to make few but of longer duration visit. :)


Me too...most possibly 3 times an year...Onam, Christmas and Summer vacation.....
I amy stay for 2 weeks during summer vacation, otherwise..1 week

Some of my friends get so much homesick that they will go home frequently for a day or two. But I don't think one can enjoy the home atmosphere satisfactorily in just a day or two. Even after their return to work place, they cannot adjust themselves properly.

Years before, when I was studying in hostel, I used to go home twice a week. Home sickness!!!

Its a tricky question. All depends upon your priorities and , the needs of your family. Some times we have to sacrifice our personal growth for our family...

I never liked staying away from hometown during the festivals. Some of my college mates avoided going home and celebrated with friends.

I do not like to be out of my house. I can not live up to 2-3 days without my family

No I love my home town.But now i had to stay away from my home town.After my marriage I had to leave my home town and stay with my husband in his work place.

When we stay out of house we learn from our own mistakes through experiences we have to face on our own solely.

staying away means more self dependent than depending on others :) :) :)

You get more importance when you are at a distant place from home. There is Hindi proverb- Ghar ka Jogi Jogna, aan gaon ka sidh ( A saint from far off place is real divine man whereas one of the village is just a shadow of saint). Thus means that nobody gets importance in ownp place.

The navigators like Columbus got success and prominence by visiting places. The British set empire only by travelling far and wide. You may gain nothing by remaining home sick.

we have a similar proverb....jasmine at our courtyard has no perfume.....means we never understand the value of things which are near us.

But sometimes that in dependency becomes dangerous as many of boys start smoking and drinking when they see that there is no boundation of their parents on them I have seen many of the boys doing it in the hostel even I too started it in the hostel itself. :evil:

I love gold very much but prices of gold at present is very high. It crossed to Rs. 32000/- per 10 gram. For middle class families to purchase of gold is very difficult for marriages

Yes Job is the major issue due to which people stay out of their home town.I have several people living separately from their family due to the job and its really very tough to live like this. I don't accept the job offers where I would have to stay away from my home town at present I don't like to go away from my home. :)
