Now strikes are over and banks are working normally. Isn't it?

My husband is working in HDFC Bank. He told, all the branches of main town Thrissur were closed yesterday due to protests from bank association. We really wonder why, though strike is for public sector banks, why it's affecting private banks.

They wish to show their unity in such matters and the extra leaves is good enough reason for Indians. We have more holidays than working days. We love that.

But private employes love working days more than holidays :woohoo: :woohoo:

they are even working on Sundays, full time

You see there are two schools of thought in India
1- finish your work on time with full responsibility and go home timely- Tata school
2- Linger on, keep pending work by not working in working hours and do it in off time to show as if you are big worker, ttah is known as Birla school.

From Birla school of thought, I recall a book read long back. The title of the book is funny. This is- P.U.C. or do not do today what you can postpone till tomorrow. Needless to say, the contents of the book very funny and full of satire.

That was part of our syllabus in B'school that goes as following-
Tatas were never happy to see any one work after office hours as that showed that, that particular employee was not capable to do it in given time.
Birla's workers never did it in working hours because they wanted to do it in off hours to show it to others that they were too busy who did not care for time and worked late. I am not sure if over-time amount was allowed.

What to do, bank employees are not only given account targets but insurance targets too...causing them a lot of head ache.
He says.....only 8-10 working hours a day. But have to do 80 hours work in those 8 hours. Earlier, bank managers need to stay at office looking office files. Now they are doing field work like sale executives. :S :S . Checking 1000 mails per day and sending replies and reports is also a tedious job.

Last year..still I remember......he went along with a customer to many shops to help him buy floor tiles and bathroom tiles for his new home. He spend almost an evening till night to get an account from that rich customer of 50,000 or 1 lakh rupees. If sub-ordinates don't work properly, they need to work.

From Today that is 22nd and 23rd August bank will remain closed. Many people had to suffer regarding the strike. Our country had to undergo heavy loss.

30000 crores lost. I read it from newspaper

I am doubtful about such loss calculation. strike only delays work but does not reduce the volume of transactions or work loaf any way. Business transactions are not reduced by these strikes. Ultimately all cheques are cleared and transactions are more when bank opens. So, today there will be big rush in banks. The bank staff will have to work extra for the work load but will get no salary for days or strike. This will benefit the banks. Although there should be no overall loss, there is definitely inconvenience to people. There should be alternative way of protest.

Actually GulshanG is right in his own way. The loss is not real but delay in payments and cheques clearing level plus other payment delays. Although the transactions would be back to track but loss of manpower and production loss plus losses occured due to such strikes is more than what we see on face value. Can we add up the salary and perks of those bank employees who did not work for 2 days?

They don't even keep money in ATM counters. General public get harass because of their strike and working tendencies.

This is true. But we had advance information about the strike. This was just for two days. We could and most in fact arranged to draw cash for these two days. There is actually trouble when the period is long or there is no advance information.

I think any strike has any benefit now. It just disturb the normal practice and disturb people.
