The Union Government has approved proposal to make the offence of 'rape' gender free. So far only man can rape woman. Woman is always victim and man is offender. By replacing the term 'rape' by 'sexual assault', even men can be victims.

Some women organizations have opposed this.

In order to make rape laws gender neutral, the government has cleared a proposal to substitute the term "sexual assault" in place of "rape" and widen the scope of the offence in the Criminal Law.But I opposed this.I think that govt should not introduce such laws.Instead govt should punish those who attend this crime.Instead govt should take necessary steps to remove this crime from the root.

The proposed change will be more helpful in punishing the guilty. Presently, The definition of 'rape' is so worded that in most cases, it is difficult to establish the allegation. So, only molestation is proved. The change to 'sexual assault' will be easier to prove as there is no need to prove penetration by the offender.
