Yes,festivals do bring our family close and we try to celebrate our festivals more happily. Actually God has made those festivals to enjoy with friends and family.Its good. I too love festivals.

As long as they are celebrated with in the religious styles and functions these are enjoyable later they turn in to show business.

But festivals are changing their basics, these are more of money business than the religious values, most of them.
Very true sunil, diyas have been replaced by garish electric bulbs and bhajans and family prayers by loud speakers and it is all about how much one spends on festivities, even going to the extent of taking a loan..
Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

True!! that is because now the purpose of festivals is now perceived as the individual prowess of showing how much money one can spend, rather than the true purpose of why and how any festival should be spent!

True!! that is because now the purpose of festivals is now perceived as the individual prowess of showing how much money one can spend, rather than the true purpose of why and how any festival should be spent!
Yes it has become a sort of status symbol which is again questionable ..One gets to read about families being ruined falling to prey to such false notions ..
