There is still long process to go. first pass in Lok Sabha and then ratify in state assemblies. Then demarcate constituencies. But this is a time for rejoicing. Well begun is half done.

Yes gulshan.Lot more to go. Who knows what kind of protests are going to happen in Lok sabha before the bill is passed.

As the bill is supported by major parties- congress, BJP and left- this will be passed in Lok Sabha despite protests if the supporters remain firm. Most of the regional parties do not want reservation as they do not have sufficient women leaders for contesting Lok Sabha and assembly elections.

While there are very good reasons to hail this landmark development I for one, do feel no political party is sincere in this regard.A change in perception is long overdue. We are into the 63rd years of our Independence but if one takes a cursory look at the number of women candidates fielded by the various political parties in the last parliamentary elections, it becomes crystal clear that even the Congress Party ,which is headed by a woman, has fared as poorly as any other party.Let us hope things change from now on.
Why they need reservation in the parliament ?? Reservation should be implemented in selecting the candidates for the elections. Then both men and women participating for a same seat gives wonderful experience and tells their ability. This should be needed. Not reservation in parliament.

Rakesh- I agree with you that men and women should freely compete instead of demarcating separate all woman constituencies. separate constituencies for women are like all woman school classes. When we like co-education, there is no reason why we should like to see women contesting against women only. However, the problem is that our society is male dominated. If left to itself, even competent women will not get representation. That is why the reservation for women in parliament and assemblies is being sought. Only reservation will not help. The thrust should be in educating women and inculcating leadership qualities among them so that they may compete without crutches of reservation.

Its good to have 33% reservation in parliament. But if this implements in everywhere like education, govt jobs and where its applicable then it would serve its purpose. Only reservation in parliament doesn't give u much. As one our members stated it should be considered when selecting the candidates for the election... :)
it is useless unless backward class didn't get their share...
Now it is going to Loksabha for real competition.Let us see will it pass out successfully.Wait.....
