Baking soda can act as an excellent deodorant. Apply the powder in the underarms and it will keep the sweat odor at bay. Even strong odors from the body, especially the hands, can be removed with the help of baking soda.

It can also be used as toothpaste. Mix half a teaspoon of baking soda with an equal amount of peroxide paste and use it to brush the teeth. Gargling with water mixed with half a teaspoon of baking soda can refresh the mouth and also relief canker sore pain.

It can provide excellent relief against acidity. Those suffering from heartburn can get relief if they take in a glass of water mixed with a teaspoon of baking soda.

Bathe with a cup of baking soda added to your bathwater and it will help in softening the skin. It can also be used to scrub the face and body. This will also provide relief against any skin irritations.

Itchiness of the skin and pain resulting from insect bites or sunburn can be relieved by adding baking soda to the affected areas. It is also a good way to relieve diaper rash in babies.

Baking soda can also be used as an air freshener. Simply mix baking soda with perfumed bath salts and put this mixture in small sachet bags. Now hang these bags in the room.

Cleaning brushes, whose bristles have become stiff, can be softened when they are boiled in half a gallon of water mixed with ¼ cup of vinegar and one cup of baking soda.

Sprinkle generous amounts of baking soda in all those places that are prone to insects. This will help in repelling the insects, especially ants and cockroaches.

Clean the toilet by adding a cup of baking soda in the bowl. Leave it for approximately an hour and then flush. The toilet will be clean and odorless. Uses For Baking Soda

Bicarbonate of soda or baking soda has many different uses in the household!

1. To make your own baking powder
, stir and sift together 2 parts of Cream of Tartar
to 1 part baking soda and 1 part cornstarch.

2. Be sure to keep an extra box of baking soda by your stove in case of grease or electrical fire. Scatter the powder by the handful to safely put it out.

3. Keep a container of baking soda in your garage as well as in your car to put out a fire. It won't damage anything it touches.

4. Baking soda will also put out fires in clothing, fuel, wood, upholstery and rugs.

5. Clean vegetables and fruit with baking soda. Sprinkle in water, soak and rise the produce.

6. Wash garbage cans with baking soda.

7. Soak and wash diapers with baking soda.

8. Oil and grease -- stained clothing washes out better with baking soda added to the washing water.

9. Clean your fridge and freezer with dry baking soda sprinkled on a damp cloth. rinse with clear water.

10. Deodorize your fridge and freezer by putting in an open container of baking soda to absorb odors. Stir and turn over the baking soda from time to time. Replace every 2 months.

11. Soda absorbs kitty litter odors. Cover the bottom of the kitty box with 1 part baking soda; then add a layer of three parts kitty litter on top.

12. Always add 1/2-cup baking soda to your washing machine load.

13. Clean combs and brushes in a baking soda solution.

14. Wash food and drink containers with baking soda and water.

15. Wash marble-topped furniture with a solution of 3-tablespoons of baking soda in 1 quart of warm water. Let stand awhile, then rinse.

16. Clean formica counter tops with baking soda on a damp sponge.

17. Wash out thermos bottles and cooling containers with baking soda and water to get rid of stale smells.

18. To remove stubborn stains from marble, formica or plastic surfaces, scour with a paste of baking soda and water.

19. Wash glass or stainless steel coffee pots (but not aluminum) in a baking soda solution ( 3-tablespoons soda to 1 quart water).

20. Run your coffee maker through its cycle with a baking soda solution. Rinse.
Thanks for some good use of baking soda Neetu! It is an excellent cleanser as well as a disinfectant, and should be used more freely for cleaning purposes rather than opting for chemical cleaners! It sespecially necessary now that the environmental pollution is on the right from all quarters!

I personally use baking soda for cleaning tea and coffee stains from crockery, to clean my hands after cutting garlics and onions etc. Also, for those wanting to get rid of egg smells after preparing egg dishes, can use a mix of baking soda with salt to wash the utensils. It rids them of lingering egg smells.
