You're right, if you go by the name the charecter will sound like that but to know him better you will have to really know him. You will find, you have entered in an entire different world.
I'm of the opinion that a person is like a Book. Preface of the Book will not unfold entire characteristics of a person. One has to read till one reaches, "The End."

No Dr. Doolittle is a person who talks to animals and sympathises with them, not the literal meaning of the word Dolittle. He is a character popularised by Eddie Murphy in the films by same name.
