Well, looks like we are in for such surprises..Govt. officials/ employees will now observe 'clean India' campaign on 2nd Oct/ other wise observed as national holiday - "to get rid of clutter, garbage and weed out old and unwanted things from government office premises". An innovative and novel approach to clean the govt. offices!
Wonder will private organizations/employees will get an holiday or not.

I heartily welcome this move, Swachhata Shapath' (pledge of cleanliness). After all as Mahatma himself believed Cleanliness is next to Godliness. It's the greatest honor shown to the Father of the nation , the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi,

Yes, even I am glad that the govt. officials/employees will not take a day off in the name of observing Gandhi Jayanti...at least now something useful will be done on this day.

The holiday concept is not apprpriate. We need only weekly holiay as such. The national holidays should ot mean idling at home. On Republic day and independence day, all employes should participate in the flag hoising and other related activities. Mahatma gandhi birthday is rightly earmarked as cleanliness weak. There should be no closed holdiays apart from th three national holidays. Instead there could e larger number of restricted holidays out of which an emploe may choose any ten.

It's the biggest tribute to the father of the nation, who believed "Work is worship " instead of spending the holiday in a wasteful way.

I am quite surprised to see the action going to taken by the government. There is lot of improvements happening in government now-a-days. It is a good move and the way to show their dedication towards Mahatma.

Yes, it is indeed a good move...only feel sorry for people who must have made plans clubbing 2nd Oct with weekend, 2nd Oct being a Thursday this year.

People enjoyed a lot with too many holidays in the past. India is a country, where every where there is a holiday somewhere in the country everyday. This is a productivity killer and in these holidays many spend their time in indulging wasting the time. This Modi wanted to stop. He knows the value of time. Modi's step in this direction is hail worthy.

The Govt. employees enjoyed a lot and this step ..that Modi has initiated ..no holiday and cleaning campaign on 2nd Oct serves them right. But private Orgs do not give holidays not even on Ganesh Chaturthi ir Holi..it won't matter much if there is reduction in any other national holiday. Also, if a weekday is a holiday, private orgs make people work on Saturdays to make up for the lost day.[/quote
Not all the government employees enjoy the holidays. Take for example a government owned Production unit like a Steel plant cannot afford to close the plant. Its a 24 x 7 production unit. In such cases government has a provision for "Restricted Holidays." It means only a few employees who inform the management well before are eligible for a Public holiday or a festival holiday. Others have to work.
