Why do young doctors not like to work in villages? Is it only that they are urban oriented? There are some other causes. One is that duration of their degree course gets lengthened. It is necessary that the govt. look all aspects and protect interets of young doctors also while catering to need of rural population.

This is probably due to non availability of facilities which doctors are used to, besides while villagers are running out of villages who wants to go there.

It is not possible to make available all facilities which doctors are using in villages. Villagers are running to cities because farming is not profitable business. Farmers are not getting fair prices of their crops. government is responsible for it.

Exactly this was due to government's negligence of villages which made them so unattractive that villagers found it better to flee to cities and outsiders found them unattractive. Government failed villagers on all fronts.

There are many other factors which deter them- first of all primary health centers in rural areas are ill equpped to handle any sort of emergency. There is no proper place for them to stay . They also have no socail life .If care is taken to provide at least the basic amenities a few more doctors would opt to serve the health clinics in villages.

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Also one thing I have also noticed that they ard quite adament. Don't listen to advice properly and will follo their orthodox way of treatment. .. so docs get frustrated.

Exactly!! I read an article in newspaper by a prominent surgeon in Mumbai who said exactly the same thing. The fact is that the doctors have to shell out lakhs of rupees during the 5-6 years of their training and if they are expected to go to some remote area where there are no basic facilities nor equipments to do their job. There are no proper facilities for their family or schools where they can educate their children! So how will they willingly go work in such areas? There are a few noteworthy exceptions such as Dr. Prakash Amte, his wife and children, Dr. Vikas Amte, his wife and children, Doctors Abhay and Rani Bang and a few others in Maharashtra. Similar others in rest of the country. But for thousands other doctors, finding such kind of inspiration and motivation is not possible for, what these doctors have done is indeed a mammoth task!

So if the government indeed wants to improve the health care in rural areas, they need to work first on providing proper facilities and infrastructure. Where there are doctors in such areas, they are handicapped by lack of equipment and still they try to do their best, but many a times, due to lack of medicines and equipments, they see their patients die helplessly! Which deters other doctors from landing in their positions!

There is more to it, villagers want free medicines available in hospitals at village level but our village hospitals do not have any medicines beyond Paracetamol and vit B complex, if the villager do not get proper medicines at time of emergency, they are sure in for big bashing. As far residences for doctors, most doctors live in nearby cities from where they commute once in a day to be available for 4-5 hours in all. No doctors however fresh want to go and mishandled in villages for lack of facilities.

That I believe is their limitation as they can't afford costly medicines. But even our govt. Haven't given costly medicines to local despenseries to helpvthem in emergency then how do docs are supposed to help..
