Some religions like Christianity always encourage people to give birth to more and more children. Birth control activities are against the religion. In Kerala, most of the new generation couples of Christian families have four to five children because of the influence of religious leaders.
Persons are means as well as ends of economic development. They are an asset if in adequate strength and prove to be a liability if excess in strength. Population has crossed the optimum limit in India. Such a condition leads to unemployment, exerts immense pressure on infrastructure and country's resources. Limiting the growth on the population by using Family planning methods is the only solution.
the main factor for rapid increase in population in India is illiteracy

All I can say is that this is a matter of great regret. The same ethos pervades the Muslim community as well

Illiteracy is just one factor, the other is religion as both Catholics an Islam propagate more children.
Situation of India and Japan both are not right one. Now japan is facing problem of young and India have much young. One child policy of China is failed one, it is right that they control population but they are facing another type of problems. China now relax in this policy. Illiteracy and some religious cause is problem in controling population growth in India. It is good news that people of rural area are much serious for their family size, now their preferane is 2 child.
A developing country's population generally goes up because of better survivalability. At a later point it starts maturing and then declining as is happening in advanced countries. Is India approaching maturity stage is the question.

Chinese policy had an effect and population is controlled. India is 1/4 size of China and will have more population. The Muslim religion and catholic faith want more children that's why in the last census Hindu population declined.

Beliefs of certain religions too contributed to the population explosion in India. Even in India these beliefs are prevailing.Unless strict measures are employed to control the population, India, to that matter any country cannot have development.
