Hand written passports will become invalid from tomorrow onward , so before you plan on an international trip make sure that you get your passport changed since it will not be accepted as a travel document unless it gets updated

Thanks for the link but mine was replaced by a printed one in 2007 so I am safe.

Mine too was renewed in 2008 so no worries, it is those before 2006 that need to make the necessary changes if they intend travelling or else it will done automatically when they renew them next year !

I think a decade ago. I with my wife applied for my passport . to attend to the first delivery of my daughter, who lives in US. But it was delayed may be due to some technical problems. Instead, my daughter's in laws went to USA. And after that I dropped the idea of going to any foreign country

Passport is also a document that can be used as identity proof and many people get one for that reason although they have no immediate plans of going abroad.I have an aunt who has not stepped out of the state but she keeps updating her passport regularly and even now has submitted and got it changed !

I stopped renewing my passport for the reason, My children are regularly visiting me. And the other reason is, my other business interests like Advertising agencies. I incur lot of loss, if I leave my place even for a day.

On the contrary it makes no difference on my activities I live in India or anywhere in the world, my income remains the same. So I leave no opportunity of using my passport.

Those who have children abroad should keep passport handy  for one never knows when opportunity for visit may arise.

@vijay yes that's one of the reasons we cannot avoid spending few thousand rupees in renewal every tenth year. My wife passport will laps next year but I will get it renewed as soon as possible.

It makes sense does'nt it. But some will resist, it is their choice.

What you mean by " Some will resist It"?. people choose the necessity of renewal of a passport according to their necessities and preferences. My children come every year from abroad. I have many business interests in my local area. With all this, there is no necessity for going abroad. Above all there is that age factor. Which will not  allow me to go to foreign countries. This is my experience and opinion.

You want your choice to be respected and it should be. Similarly you should also respect the choice of others and not condemn their choices.

I respect others choices .What I said was my choice. It's up to you or to any others to take it or leave it.

I will take it and why should I leave a chance to take something, it's hard to give up though grimacing.png

Welcome. Please don't mind, i had to be a bit harsh on people who always force their opinions. While you expressed your opinion, I too expressed my opinion.

Even if one does not travel abroad, a passport is a good thing as it serves also as a document of identity. Passports are now much easier to get, but more passport Kendras need to be set up

Many people have this wrong idea that passport is to be had only by those who want to travel abroad which is a very limited view in my opinion ! It is a travel document given by your country and it also becomes your proof of identity since almost all personal details are covered, of course there may have been a few exceptions where there have been some discrepancies. It is good to have one and keep renewing it whether your children live abroad, visit you or not since their life is independent of yours ..

Of course, I agree a passport can be used as an identity card. As far as its purpose and uses are concerned I don't have any wrong ideas. What I want to say is, passport is not the only document that can be used as an identity card. I use Aadhar card, after stopping the renewal of my passport.

At least there are more collection centers now in district headquarters which makes it easier  now to get a passport , as well as renew it..Of course Passport is a document that every Indian should have by right ! Even my school peon has it because his son works in the gulf and he hopes to visit him some day !

Passport is a document that can be used for identity. But not the only document that can be used for identity.

There is no use repeating the same answers so the thread is locked.
