Regular updating is essential to be in reckoning. Outdated knowledge is of no use.
Another important aspect of learning is forgetting. One problem with old people is that they do not forget what has become irrelevant now. This is also a handicap. You need to forget the stale and irrelevant in order to learn the new and currently relevant. You need to empty a bucket before filling in new water. same about learning.

Well said. New things should make way to outdated things. Updating of knowledge on a regular basis is the criteria.

True…. Knowledge changes with time. And the ‘bucket’ needs to be emptied.
Outdated and obsolete knowledge will make one a Butt of laughter.
Learning is a never-ending process and a life or more is not enough to come even near to the end of it. It is all about equipping ourselves with knowledge from sources as infinite and as varied as we are. But obstacles, road-blocks are too many. How about unlearning certain things before the process begins? Set ideas , mental blocks, blind spots in our minds, preconceived notions, personal prejudices and prediliction are all peppered over our path to surmount to be a true leader. As to finding a true teacher to learn from? Don't you see the one - the greatest of all - who is out there eternally - the Mother Nature?

Who is Mother Nature???? Learning is now limited to how much you scored in what subject and what kind of degree you own. My own sad experience is that engineers, even the inefficient and totally mediocre ones, are looked at with more respect than an intelligent artisan!
"I am free of all prejudice. I hate everyone equally."
- W. C. Fields :)
These are the days where merit or intelligence has become a bane. Intelligent is that person who dances to the tunes of the establishment..
I feel that even ideasa and knowledge gets recycled like everything else in life so, there is no outdated knowledge....Each idea is relevant to to that particular time and circumstances hence is relevant and with changed times and circumstances we may see the same ideas gaining inportance once again...Of course we keep learning but also use our old knowledge as a stepping stone and keep it in the sub conscious store house perhaps for future use of it becomes necessary to do so!
Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!
