What is the Present Status?
Since last 60 years reservations are being given to some sections of our society based on their caste and class irrespective of their economical background for generations together. If this policy is scientific and good, then how many of them got uplifted, to become self supportive for their next generations. If the so called process of uplifting is still incomplete even after 60 years, then the present policy of reservations is not scientific and useless.
Facts, which cannot be ignored.
Many people from the forward castes, even if their families live in penury, are kept out of the reservation quota in higher education and government jobs. Their children in spite of economical backwardness (who earn a pittance, who carry the dead in their community to the cremation ground for livelihood, who do not eat two full meals a day) are kept out of the reservation quota regime.
Some sections of the society is kept out of the reservations, in spite of their economical backwardness, just because they belong to the so called forward castes.
On the other side many people, just with a tag of reservations to their caste are enjoying with free seats in education and easy jobs in government since generations together, in spite their families got elevated to higher status socially and to above middle class economically. Since they cannot compete with real talented people openly in the private sector, they are grouping as vote banks under some selfish politicians and demanding reservations in private sector also for them.
How long this practice should continue. Is it right to uplift a section of our society, at the cost of other genuine sections. Are we not creating other suppressing sections in our society by this process? Is it a scientific way?
The objective of reservations should be solely to uplift the socially and economically backward people up to one generation only at the government cost. Then they should carry forward and take care of their next generations independently.
My opinion and solution.
I do not think reservations in the present form fetch any good for India in the long run.
“IT IS THE WORST FORM OF INEQUALITY TO TRY TO MAKE UNEQUAL THINGS EQUAL”.
It is against the natural law and is not wise to make unequal things equal.
In India (But no where in the world) since last 60 years reservations were implemented for some groups of people based on social backwardness (Not scientifically proved and valid but politically motivated) in the field of education, employment, promotions and in politics etc. This is creating an atmosphere where many un-eligible or unequal candidates grab the opportunities, and the intelligentsia gets depressed due to minimum opportunities for them, migrate to other countries and prove their talents and give best service to foreign countries and not to their nation or countrymen.
This situation can be corrected by providing free education; hostel and boarding facilities, talent and skills development programs etc by the government and NGO’s to all poor & economically backward people irrespective of their caste & religion, so that we can make their skills and intelligences improve and equally compete with all to grab the opportunities in an open ground.
In a big country like India where the natural resources are in abundant, providing equal opportunities and employment to all is not at all an impossible task, if a strong political will exist to plan and utilize them at maximum level in all possible ways. The people are ready to do hard work, providing the opportunities are open and available to them, which is not their up to the requirement at present, hence many become lazy and remain poor, depend on government for generations together. Apart from the lack of political will, vote banks and corruption are the other evils which are playing their worst role in this matter.
Hope the present and coming generations will correct this and move forward in a right direction.
