Ram and Ranga were two friends. Ram had is own farms and was at one time a rich farmer. He had his farms but he was too lazy to go and work there. He had employed some servants and all the work was left to them. His wise Ravi was very sad. Everything seemed to be going wrong with them. The milk of the cows had reduced. They yield from the crops also became less.
One day, Ranga a friend of Ram, came. He saw the condition of his house. He could easily make out that despite having farms they had become very poor. He knew Ram was very lazy. He did not do any work himself. Since Ranga was a close fiend, Ram told him about their poor condition. Ranga thought of a solution.
He told Ram that a milky white swan, which lives near Mansrovar, comes to the field early in the morning from heaven. It goes back by the afternoon. But one does not know when it will come. If Ram was able to see that milky white swan al his problems will be solved. There will be never any dearth in his house after that.
Ram was feeling very bad about his condition. He was ready to do any thing to come out of these difficulties, from next day itself he decided to go in search of the milky white swan. He got up early in the morning to the sores where their grains were kept. He saw his servant collecting the grains and putting them in his bag. He could never expect his master to come so early in the morning. He felt sorry for his action and said that he will never do that again.
Ram came back to his house to have is breakfast. He went to his cowshed. There he found his servant stealing the milk. He scolded him.
After breakfast he again went in search of the milky white swan. As he reached his fields he found no one working there, after sometime his workers very late work. He asked them why they were coming so late. In this way wherever he went, he found some problem.
After that day Ram started going every day morning in search of the milky white sawn. All his workers realized that they could not do any stealing now. They also started coming on time.
Ram’s health also improved, Since Ram was himself working the crops and the yield of milk also improved.
One day Ranga met Ram.
He asked Ranga, ``did you find the milky white swan flying in the fields.’’
Ram said, ``I did not find the milky white swan but I found something else.’’
``What is that?’’ asked Ranga.
``The mantra of hard work. Unless you work yourself, their, cannot be success, by getting up early and going to farms my health has improved. Though, I did not come across the swan, but I have found the need for hard work and regularity.’’ Ram Said
``Very good. The swan would have also told you the same thing. Please continue working like this. Hard work is the only key to success and happiness.’’ Ranga told.
