Music is the treat for every one. Not only men, animals and birds also enjoy music. In epic, we heard cows love the music of Lord Krishna’s flute.
Carnatic Music is the base and famous in south India. It starts in seven swaras.
These are
- Shadja – Sa
- Rishaba-Ri
- Gandhara-Ga
- Madhyama-Ma
- Panchama-Pa
- Dhaivata-Dha
- Nishada-Ni
This swaras should practice by beginners in “maya malava kovla” raga.
The interesting story behind in these seven swaras.
Long long ago, seven saints went to various parts for search the good sound.
First saint heard the sound of peacock. He took that sound. That is Shadja –sa.
Second saint heard the sound of bull. He took that sound. That is Rishaba-Ri
Third saint heard the sound of goat. He took that sound. That is Gandhara-Ga
Fourth saint heard the sound of Growntha bird. He took that sound. That is Madhyama-Ma
Fifth saint heard the sound of cuckoo. He took that sound. That is Panchama-Pa
Sixth saint heard the sound of horse. He took that sound. That is Dhaivata-Dha
Seventh saint heard the sound of elephant. He took that sound. That is Nishada-Ni
The combination of these sounds form the carnatic music. I am not sure this is the true story. But it is interesting and thoughtful one.
