What’s the normal life span of a span, 65-75 or more than that? Now medical science has advanced forward increasing average life span of a person to 72. Is it possible to increase the life span of a person without any medical help? Most people may say, ‘no’. But my answer is ‘yes’. Do you know the reason? Medical science has proved that if we cut the intake of calories, it reduces the risk of many diseases thus increasing the life span of a man. Yes, it’s possible to get medical treatment to many of the common diseases – diabetics, blood pressure, cholesterol, cancer etc. But which one is best? Disease free life to live long or living a long life with high doze of medicines with a threatening sword always hanging above your head? Yes, to live free of diseases, healthy and strong. If you are able to control the intake of calories, you can reduce risk of many diseases thus getting a healthy and long life, doctors say. So, controlling calories is the main fact.
People were strong half century back
Average life span of people may not be 72 before 1950’s. Medical sciences had not advanced this much forward. So, child deaths were high that time, thus decreasing the average life span below 65. But adult people lived for 90-120 years. Also diseases like blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetics were very rare. Cancer was not seen even one in thousand. Why so?
People lived that time was hard working. Modern machines made us lazy a lot, giving diseases as bonus. Now, third generation of diseases has also come into existence. Fibromayarsia related to muscles, IBS affecting stomach, Carpenter-Tunnel syndrome, Fatty liver, Chronic Fatigue syndrome etc……count never lasts! 40 or 50 years back, many electronic devices were not familiar to rural places and now, we find only rare homes without a fridge, TV, electrical pumps, washing machine or mixer. Now machines have come to market which can wash plates and other vessels also. Man can spend their valuable time for doing anything else. Yet, he forgets to do regular exercise to keep away signs of diseases and aging.
It was not the case a century back. People depended on agriculture most. Women also, full time engaged in household and bringing up kids. No machines and only few vehicles. People of old places used to walk 4 or 5 kms everyday without any difficulty to reach market, school, colleges etc. There lies the secret. Walking is the best exercise to burn a lot of calories.
Also, people didn’t eat high calorie food that time. Less artificial food and more preference to natural food, fruits and vegetables made them free of all diseases and live a long life. It’s not possible for we people to adopt their life style fully. We have our own limitations in the present world. Yet, it’s possible to learn at least a few things from their life.
Reducing calories is control of cancer
In 1933, Professor Clyde first found the relation between calorie control and life span of a person. If calories are brought under control, they reduce cancers too. Experiments conducted in different parts of the world on different people were enough to prove that professor Clyde was right.
Experiments done on rats proved it right
Some rats were put in a cage and given food in plenty. Royal food with comfort life. Yet average life span of those rats were 625 days, i.e.1 year. They conducted experiments again. Some rats were put in a cage giving minimum food, almost 40-50% food reduced from the previous experiment. Average life span of those rats was 1125 days. Some of them even crossed 1800 days. So, rats given minimum food lived almost twice than those ‘royal food’ rats. So, it was proved that such conditions may be applied to human beings too. Also, according to statistics, men can live up to 180 years under proper food control. Also, those rats which lived up to 1800 days had a peculiarity. From the time of birth itself as they got control over calories, their life span was maximum extended. But they were small in size comparing to those provided with good food. Again experiments were conducted on rats. This time, some rats were provided with good food till their adult stage and then given restrictions. Such ‘food controlled’ rats lived up to 1120 days. So, studies proved that we can extend our life span if we alter our bad food styles at least during our middle ages.
When should we start?
So, if you can’t to increase your life span, you need to decrease your size and weight. It’s better to start control at adult stages rather than beginning at young ages. So 20-35 is the best time to keep an eye on calorie intake. Even if you can’t reach 120, you may attain 90 or 100.
How to control?
It’s not a difficult task to control calorie intake. Any person can find it and check those additional items which may increase the calories of your food. A simple discipline is sufficient.
Find calorie expense of your body
Each person may differ in their calorie intake. Sportsmen and mansion worker may need more while an IT professional may need it less. First make a list of your weekly food and find total calories associated with those food items. You can ask help from a dietician as well. Check your body weight.
Reducing food intake is the next step
Step by step reduce your calorie intake. It’s better to start decreasing your food intake at a rate of 10% per week. Reduce sugar and fried items to see quick results. At first your body weight will dip suddenly. But after some weeks, it may pace with a lower rate. This time, body fat start to decrease, thus decreasing overall fat percentage of the body. Normally man’s body constitute of 10% fat while it’s 15% for ladies. You can do some body exercises as well along with food control.
Retaining the body weight
Next step is to know how much food is needed to maintain your body weight in equilibrium. Consider that 10-15% fat too. Your body weight should not fall or increase afterwards. So, supply those calories only needed to keep your body in that weight and health conditions. Some persons may need 900 calories only while some others above 2000. It depends upon their job, living conditions, daily activities etc.
Exercise is equally important
Exercise and food control are linked in some way or other. If we intake a lot of calorie food after a heavy exercise, exercise won’t be benefited to the body. Same way, if you control food a lot, a little refreshment given to the body in the form of exercises as well, it gives more strength to the body. Also, extra calories will be burned. It’s not at all an easy task to control your weight with food control only. Exercise makes that task easy for you. So, preparing a good diet-exercise plan can help you a lot.
Longevity doesn’t mean young always.
Increasing our life span doesn’t mean we will stay young for ever. Slowly we will be attacked by old age. But good life styles can extend that wave length towards old age. At the age of 60-70, old age slowly begins to attack and after that a person will remain in there till his end. That means, even if you live till 100 or 120, conditions of your body won’t worsen further. It remains almost the same.
Exercise and longevity
Not only calorie control, exercise can also increase your life span. In those persons who exercise regularly, slowed pace of decrease of length of telomeres are seen. That means cells get more time to divide, thus increasing the life of a person. Relieving stress gives another reason for you to exercise regularly.
