Let me tell you my story first before I write about the film. As soon as this animation film entered into the Top 20 of the IMDb ‘Top Films’ list, I decided to download the film in haste as I am kind of sucker towards films that are being rated so highly by the IMDb users. All that happened in June, when the film had just released and only its CAM print was available on the Internet. That was kind of a rough experience. Though the CAM print was more than bearable, it left me unsatisfied; I even blamed myself for disrespecting an animation film by watching it in one of the worst possible format of a film, the one recorded through a camcoder.

Few months later the film finally released in the DVD and Blu Ray, and I, as usual, set my eyes on downloading the staple 480p BDRip. Though at that time Rajeev Masand gave a DVD review of the film saying that the single disc edition shouldn’t fool its purchaser, since it had loads of extra features (about which I will write a little later) that bought good value for money.

Now, as cynical as it may sound, I decided to download the complete NTSC DVD-Image of the film – and so I did. After 10 days of continuous downloading, I finally got what I wanted – a DVD-Image, waiting to be burned on a standard 4.36 GB DVD. And oh boy, did I get exactly what I wanted? Much more than that! I had virtually everything at my disposal, the menu, ‘scene selection’ option, the ‘extra’ features - all of which Masand was talking about. It was as if I had purchased the Up DVD and was browsing it like anyone would after they have purchased a DVD for 500 bucks.

Needless to say, the experience was magnificent. But what made my enjoying the film even more was something which nobody would fully be able to understand since their knowledge is restricted in only appreciating the film, its plot, its character, but not what went behind its making. Since I had the privilege of accessing the ‘extra’ features of the DVD as well, I came to know about the amount of hard work that was put behind in the making the film.

There was this 20 minute documentary, which featured the interview of the director and all the creative thinkers that explained what made the film, especially its strikingly realistic imagery of ‘Paradise Falls’ in South America. Now, the complete background wasn’t made out of thin air, but it was a result of rather much meticulous attention to detail. ‘Paradise Falls’ is an imaginary name, yes, but its imagery isn’t. The complete crew of the film went to Venezuela in South America where they spent considerable time for their research. The ‘Paradise Falls’ and its surrounding canyons was an amalgamation of Angel falls and Tepui mountains. In Tepui, there was certain rock like structures that did resemble of that of a human face, an animal, or any shape you can imagine -- something which was incorporated in the film, when in one scene Mr. Fredrickson mistook a rock for a man. Or even the brief scene where Russell and Fredrickson struggle under a thunderstorm and the resultant incessant rainfall was inspired from what the crew experienced in their stay in Tapui. There were several other things that were incorporated. The Paradise Falls is, of course, an imitation of the Angel Falls, though the director told that he made it look a few hundred meters more steeper than the original Falls, which, by the way, is already the highest waterfall in the world.

The other contents in the DVD contained a cute, 10 minute animation clip, ‘Partly Cloudy’.

The way hero tracks down his enemies is really intelligent. I rate this movie 8/10

it start Russell Crowe n al pacino (wuhuuuu..). bt the movie is very long.. 2 n half hours. its based on true story of a scientist breaking his deal of no reveal with a big tobacco company which uses some harmful stuff in making cigarettes. al pacino works in a news channel who convinces Crowe to reveal the details in TV.... can’t write more.

Disaster Movie...
I actually liked it...it’s entertaining to much extent as other spoof movies are...i mean it’s a notch better than meet the Spartans and Epic movie....it has LOADS and LOADS of spoof...u can’t even count how many spoof are there in this movie...and it looks like too much work is done on the movie...i mean the spoofed character look alike look a lot like the originals...i was surprised...

It certainly doesnt deserve 1.6 rating in IMDB as it did...lol
But i will surely give it a 6...out of 10 that is!!!

Roshomon (1950) By Akira Kurosava....
I always read how Akira's a gr8 director and how Hollywood is inspired from him...well now I know how gr8 he really is...he was a painter originally...believe me each frame of the movie can be sold as painting...10 on 10 for that....acting was top knotch...10 on 10 for that too...story telling was superb and novel at that time...so 10 on 10 for that too...about the story...its well said and has loads of hidden symbols in it...so its enriching...definitely a classic...

i give it 9.85 out of 10....must watch for movie art lovers!!!

Big Fish
What's wrong in deviating from the truth.. If it’s only meant for the good, or to make d mundane things of life seem more interesting, or to make the otherwise disintegrating world look beautiful..?? This is such a story about a highly imaginative man(Ewan McGregor) who prefers to retell stories about his life with a magical touch, about a doting wife & a doubting son(Billy Crud up). As the son seeks out to find the truth behind his father’s lies all he finds are the reasons behind the lies. The relationship between the father and the son has been beautifully captured; an amusing script, a very impressive supporting cast and a very fitting ending make this movie a gem of an experience. Very few movies can move u d way this one does, a beautiful fable that illustrates the meaning of d saying "beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder"... movie like this are made rarely... don't miss.. 9.5/10

TERMINATOR SALVATION (2009).

Loud, Intense, Bombastic but terrifically entertaining... this how the new installment of The Terminator franchise really is. After going through the critics n fans reviews bashing this film, I went with low expectations.. but I think, that’s what worked. This film kicked ass & IMO, its much better than T3.

Comparing it with Terminator 1 & 2 won't do justice. Those films are landmarks, almost impossible to repeat. But, this film stands quite well on its own. It was much much better than T3. Extremely fast paced, Visually stunning, a complete action-filled post-apocalyptic film that entertains heavily. But, that’s where this film is also self-defeating.

The loopholes in this film are too many. Full of errors... seems like director McG didn’t pay attention to the dates mentioned in the prequels. There aren’t any place 4 character development, the performance by the cast was OK. The plot is a little weird, background music was very disappointing & the ending was cheesy... like Spiderman 3 though it gives an indication that more sequels are in the queue.

But, This movie is meant to entertain unlike T1 & T2 which were all-round accomplishments. From the beginning till the end, its humans vs the machines. Whole movie is in HD. The visual effects are simply groundbreaking. CGI is very well done but I wish it was better in the climax cameo of the The Terminator, though his endoskeleton worked great. Overall, This is the movie of the summer, though more are coming soon (Transformers 2 & Harry Potter 6). Much Better than what I expected & hence, I loved it .

Best Moment - The cameo of The Terminator in the climax. Reminded me of the unstoppable killing machine of the original... merciless, ruthless & made only to destroy.

Henry Selick, the director of " The Nightmare Before Christmas" ,once again takes us to a world full of imagery and wonder...but this time...some of it is actually frightening. It is not an usual funny anime movie.. This one is Dark , Gothic, Creepy and visually stunning. It's a classic anime movie for all ages. Music Score was impressive. It has some highly fun and amusing characters in it also, and that is the strongest thing of the movie. This has been added in my favorites list!

Transformers-Revenge of the Fallen:

Lacks plot, doesn't come anywhere near the prequel, the action scenes lack synchronization, sound mixing is poor, jokes are immature, the time for which the movie runs is long, even the IMAX format of the movie aint that good. The only thing present in the movie worth watching is Megan Fox

THE CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC

I saw the movie THE CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC two days before. I would say that it is a pretty underrated movie relating to the rating given in imdb. Isla Fisher stars in this movie. Her acting in this movie is appreciably good. This comedy/romance movie draws some light into the life a magazine columnist (Isla Fisher) who is a shopaholic and the way her love for shopping brings about dramatic changes in her life. The storyline is almost ok and I don't think anyone will get bored watching this one.

The movie based on politics from Thakarey family ‘Zenda’ is the next in the queue. Its directed by music director Avadhoot Gupte(The Music director of Aika Dajiba). This will be releasing on 8th Jan.

The director who brought marathi movies back to multiplexes, Mahesh Manjrekar with his great hit ‘Me Shivaji Raje Bhosale Boltoy’, is coming back with movie’ Shikshanacha Aaicha Gho’ Though this one too is going to release in Jan its date is not yet fixed. He has shown a politics and corruption that is corrupting the education system.

'Harish Chandrachi Factory', based on Dadasaheb Phalke’s effort taken to makea movie will be releasing on 22nd Jan. It has already shown at international feltivals and had received appreciation from all around.

In short its going to be a greatest gift for marathi movie lovers.
