A good and a bad writer
What I feel there is no rule as such about writing. Sometimes you may write what you want to write easily and perfectly while at other times, it is like making lot of efforts and reaching nowhere.
One should not feel disappointed or discouraged by the mere thought that writing is something rare that comes real hard way to few chosen ones. In fact, only regular practice will make anyone a better writer.
You know writers who know what they are writing always go through deeply about what they have just written down (the emphasis is on 'just') because good writers who are a notch above average writers always give a careful thought before they begin writing.
The ordinary ones keep adding while they do their writing the good ones spread their plot, which they have thought out beforehand and made out a blueprint of everything in detail. That is what makes all the difference. Good ones know what they are writing about because they know by their experience or someone shared it with them but the bad ones never care about anything in the world. They do not know the details maybe they are good at grammar but ..... And here lies the answer of your topic. Mere reading somewhere and put it in your own words does not make a good writer, you have to toil hard for that, especially if you are not a born genius.
Please note good Grammar is one of the important factors of good writing but it certainly is not the only factor. Grammar is as good as much a writer chose it to be, a good writer should himself know and make his readers understand what he is writing about, the difference in between a good writer and a bad writer is clearly visible in his choice of words and how he use them.
Good Writer and Bad Writer
Let me clarify it in the beginning itself to avoid creating confusion. I am not trying to ascertain or make a comparative survey between good or bad writers for a simple reason – I am not competent to do that. What I am trying to do is to bring certain points which I feel distinguish good writers from the bad ones. But I can put one point here without any hesitation, there are no simple answers but different versions. Everyone worth a dime has his own opinion and if you believe me, everyone differs from each other. Some big ones on this subject think that it is impossible to make a good writer out of a bad writer while some others feel that it takes lots of efforts to make one good writer out of an ordinary one.
A good writer can paint a different picture
A good writer does not have to make big efforts to show his work to his readers, it appears like Tajmahal out of ordinary buildings. A good writer does not make mistakes (many mistakes) in an entire paragraph while a bad one does it in every line perhaps every word he writes needs correction. It is like writing ‘kophy’ in place of ‘Coffee’ where not a single letter matches. A good writer explains everything he wants easily when a bad one takes the word upside down to try to make things understandable and still fails. A good writer makes his work look like a good painted picture, while the bad one complicates it with wrong selection of words.
As for me, I would not mind if they brand me as a bad writer, because I am ready to be a disputed one since I am willing to give you finest details of whatever I see around, whenever or wherever I catch it, to be a good one.
If one can learn to avoid use of words, which do not fit in one's work is perhaps the best way to make your work extraordinary. And here is one more point while on the subject, if anyone thinks that if I write long articles because I am on short on words, NO, I say a big NO here I do it because I have matter to write that is why I am writing it this long. I have a big canvas to paint my pictures that is why I am using al the paint. It is not that I am repeating my words but I am only adding here, what I have in store to share with you.
You know this is basic problem with writers and when I say writers, I mean writers who write something out of the box that everything must be a class apart. To do that one must have an inbuilt editor in himself a par excellent one. This is the only way one keeps a check on his own work or else gets kicked on his butt. After all writing is not child's play that is if you do it for your livelihood. Writing is not an easy job even for those who have been doing it for ages.
We cannot be hundred percent original, ever, because almost everything we write is only rewriting which has already been said somewhere or other. Anyone who writes makes lots of efforts before he comes out with something worthwhile, if he is not a Shakespeare or a Hemingway. I am not referring big natural writers here but ordinary people like us who have entered into the business recently. But I still have to write something even if I find too cumbersome. And this is about while trying to write something that I do not know because writing about my personal experiences is no issue at all.
Conclusion
You only have to make sure that you want to write, good or bad comes later. Writing badly is not that big an issue as long as you have it in you. Make it clear to yourself that your writing may have lot of spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, shaky ideas and whatever it takes to make a bad writer, you have to write without being unnerved because that is the only way you learn. What will you edit unless you have something to edit therefore, make enough content for yourself that you can edit and present as your final work, your finished article. Keep writing, you are on right track.
