Village
Dharma lives in a village. His village is very small. There are hills in the distance. Dharma’s house is on flat land. There are fields behind the house. The villagers are farmers. There is a stream flowing by Dharma house. There are many trees and plants all round. There is a farmer plugging the fields far away. Some birds are flying on the trees. Dharma house is mud house with a sloping roof.
That is Dharma’s environment.
The things around you make up your environment. Land, water, plants, animals and people make up your environment. The house you live in, the food you eat and the clothes you wear depend on your environment.
City
Jairam lives in city. See there environment.
It is a big city. Very big buildings are there. Heavy traffic is on the road by the more vehicles.
Living and non-living
Look around you. Look out of the window. What things do you see in you environment? Inside your classroom, there are desks, chairs, blackboard, chalk, books, lunch box, water – bottle, pencil, pen and school bags and so many more thongs. Also there is teacher, and there are many children like you. There are the ayahs, the bus drivers, the school buses, the rooms, the stairs, the building, the garden with trees and the play area. All are in your environment, but are they all like each other? No!
Some of them like your teachers, you, the other people in your School, the plants and the birds are living.
Others like chalk, blackboard, benches, chairs, bags and books are non-living.
Any environment is made up of two kinds of things: living and non-living.
Living things breathe air. They need food to be alive and to grow. Most living things move. Animals, people, birds and insects move from place wave in the breeze, they turn to the sun and can o other kinds of movements.
Living things produce young ones.
Non-living things do not eat. They do not breathe. They do not move by themselves. They do not grow or produce children.
