The functions of human resource or personnel managers of the future are likely to be more challenging and important in organizations as they have face and handle many issues which the development in the field of Information Technology and communication. With globalization, the demand on the their knowledge and expertise would be tested more severely than ever before.
The future human resource managers would be accorded a more contributory role in actuating process which is to lead from the front in motivating the entire organization apart from their personnel functions. Similarly, every executive in the organization would have to take up the responsibility for effective management of the people. The management of human resources would receive greater attention of managers irrespective of their hierarchical positions. The human resource managers would play a key role in the formulation of policies, programmes, plans and strategies of the organization. Every HRM programme would have to be properly planned and directed by the human resource manager in consultation with other functional managers.
The HRM managers would have a significant role as change agents by involving themselves in a more effective way in environmental scanning and development planning. Greater creativity has to be brought to bear upon the discharge of human resource function. Attachment to substance rather than the form would be the norm. Accomplishments rather than activities and practice rather than theory would find greater acceptability.
The expertise in behavioural sciences would count significantly for the HRM managers in the future years. Their creativity, dynamism and contribution would enable them to win respect and prestige of the organization and the world. Personnel Management would emerge as a well-established and well-rewarded profession comparable to other established and respected and rewarded professions provided the challenges and opportunities are met successfully and exploited for its advancement.
Human resource managers would have to evolve a new set of work ethics to be of assistance to the line managers in setting up and enforcing good quality standards. Greater efforts would be required to attain group cohesiveness among the workers and employees to achieve the organizational objectives more effectively.
In future, changes would have to be brought about in creating a climate and culture in the organization which is conducive to absorption of changes in the technological, economic, political, social and other related spheres.
