A total station is an optical instrument used in modern surveying and arhaeology as well as by police , crime scene investigators, private accident reconstructionists and insurance companies to take measurements of scenes . It is a combinatoon of an eletronic theodolite (transit ), an electronic distance meter (EDM) and software running on an external computer known as a data collector.
With a total station one may determine angles and distances from the instrument to points to be surveyed. With the aid of trigonometry and triangulation , the angles and distances may be used to calculate the coordinates of actual positions (X,Y and Z or northing , easting and elevation ) of surveyed points , or the position of the instruments from known points , in absolute terms.
Measurement of distance is accomplished with a modulated microwave or infared carrier signal , generated by a small solid - state emitter within the instrument's optical path , and bounced off of the object to be measured . The modulation pattern in the returning signal is read and interpreted by the onboard computer in the total station . The distance is determined by emitted and receiving multiple frequencies , and determining the integer number of wavelengths to the target for each frequency . Most total stations use a purpose - built glass Porro prism as the reflector for the EDM signal , and can measure distances out to a few kilometers , but some instruments are " reflectorless" , and can measure distances to any object that is reasonably light in color , out to a few hundred meters . The typical TotalStation EDM can measure distances accurate to about 3 millimeters or 1/100th of a foot.
WAP is taking over the world at a very rapid pace. It is growing as it has some unique advantages, which are:
- Efficiency: WAp is more efficient as it enables client and server data exchange using least amount of data transfer speed. The WAP protocol is more efficient than TCP/IP or HTTP.
- Predictability: Anyone person or organization never controls web. But on the contrary, a standard WAP forum, which has a type control over the development of WAP and related standards as well as devices, controls WAP. Because of this, only some specific WAP devices are present having the corresponding WAP gateways and hence the result are predicted.
- Dynamic behaviour: The WAP client is coded in a special language known as WML (Wireless Markup Language), which works on the script that reads the key strokes which causes change in the result on the WAP device. Even some special timers can be set through which depending on the time change various actions can occur resulting in dynamically changing web pages on the WAP browser.
- Working for constraint clients: As discussed wireless communication has to work on very minimal resources such as low capacity device and narrow data transfer rate. WAP allows the usage of such devices very efficiently by putting much of the server. To transfer a compact data using special markup languages i.e., WML and WML Script is also a main feature.
- Scalability: As WAP is based on a layered architecture, it is unique featureof WAP that each layer can develop independently of others. This makes it possible to introduce new concepts without major changes in the overall architecture. WML and wireless markup language scripts (WML Script) are used to produce WAP content. They make optimum use of small displayes and develop in such a way that the site navigation can be performed with just one hand.
E-mail has become very popular because of various reasons which are:
- Free of cost: It is almost free of cost. The cost incurred is the cost of connecting to Internet.
- Almost instant: The message is almost sent instantly. The only delay in this can be because of heavy traffic on the URL on which the data has to be sent.
- Various possible ways of making it possible: E-mail address can be obtained at various domains. So it is possible to send the message to various addresses at the same time in a singal stroke.
- Reduction of paper work: The letter is not required to be typed on the paper rather it can be sent in the soft copy reducing the paper work.
- Increases efficiency: No time is wasted in typing, printing, going to market, to get ticket or to post the letter. Everything is istant, so it is very efficient.
- Global accessibility: Another main feature of E-mail is that you can receive the mail at your house, office, cyber café or any other place around the world. Your mail box is global and you can access it from anywhere.
- Easy to keep the records: When E-mail are done using special mail softwares like outlook express or Microsoft Outlook, the mails received and sent are stored in various folders, which can be deleted if not required. So it is very easy to maintain the records.
- Facility to resend: if you send an E-mail and user says he has not got it, it is very easy to send him the mail again and it is very easy to send the same mail to somebody else as well.
- Easy maintenance of address book of friends: Maintaining the records like address and phone numbers is quite easy through the address book.
- Better than phone: It is good to communicate over phone, but it is not possible to send the documents through it. E-mail can also be used to send documents, pictures etc.
- No transportation cost: Since E-mail can be sent from your desktop, you need not bear the cost of going to the post office to send the letter.
A Geographic InformationSystem(GIS) integrates hardware, software,& data for capturing, managing, analysing,&displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret,& visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns,& trends in the form of maps, globes, reports,& charts
A GIS helps you answer questions & solve problems by looking at your data in a way that is quickly understood & easily shared & can be integrated into any enterprise information system framework
A GIS can be viewed in three ways:
1.The Database View: A GIS is a unique kind of database of the world -a geographic database (geodatabase). It is an "informationsystem for Geography."Fundamentally,a GIS is based on a structured database that describes the world in geographic terms
2.The Map View: A GIS is a set of intelligent maps & other views that show features & feature relationships on the earth's surface.Maps of the underlying geographic information can be constructsd & used as "windows into the database"to support queries ,analysis,& editing of the information.
3.The Model View: science of futureA GIS is a set of information tools that derive new geographic datasets from existing datasets. These geoprocessingfunctions take infomation from existing datasets.apply analytic functions,& write results into new derived datasets.
By combining & applying some analtic rules, you can create a model that helps answer the question you have posed. In the example below,GPS&GIS were used to accurately model the expected location & distribution of debris for the Space Shuttle Columbia , which broke up upon re-entry over eastern texas on february 1,2003.
The document management solutions (dms) have overturned the way most documents are stored nowadays.
The dust-covered damaged files and document filled cabinets are the thing of the past. Most documents are now stored & backed up on disk drive* and are well organised to make sure comfortable document management. Document management solutions provides the most effective document management solutions for corporations, medium & little business sector* and government originations. It consists of computer programs to store and keep track of electronic documents. A dms lets the users to access and recollect documents quickly, thereby improving the flexibility of an institution.
It may likewise be setup to concede for quick admission to a lot info, or to automatically notify the users of any modifications made to the documents. A lot of open source dms programs even concede users to customize and set the scheme to fit their needs. A document management resolution lets organizations to part and collaborate documents from international. Users from several emplacements are going to be able to access the scheme at whatsoever given time and the modifications made by every user would be visible to every team fellow member. It grants the team members to be able to interchange info with one another while holding an eye on the work at hand.
The dms protects the documents from illegitimate access by bounding its usage with passwords and biometric authentication*. Document management solutions provide dependable and flexible transmitting channels to organizations. These strategies allow for addition of deepened features to the interface at a later stage, thereby allowing it to be up to date with the latest developments made in the field of document management. A dms have improved the document storage, distribution and development hugely. Fuji xerox is the leader in document management and lets the australian market with assorted document management solutions and services.
