How you react while taking decision
If you feel that you are one of those who cannot decide on a particular typical topic or cannot reach to a decision instantly like some of your coworkers can, you need to improve your decision making skills instantly. I agree that it is not as easy especially while you are working as an managerial level but you should have a better decision making power according to your post. Your carrier growth depends on how you react instantly when you face a project or staff related problem. There could be another factor, which stops us from taking decisions -
A- On humanitarian ground- Most of the time we hesitate to take decisions on humanitarian ground if we feel that our decision may create problems for our coworkers but you have no alternative but to act as per set norms of official rules, therefore you should not hesitate to take a right decision.
B- There are occasions - When you find yourself in between administrative rules and ground realities, what I feel that you should consult your seniors before taking a final decision because that could save you from embarrassment at a later stage.
You meet different people at your workplace with different outlook therefore you are expected to decide and deal in different ways taking their reactions and way of thinking in mind because no two persons think alike. Let me explain a few points which may enhance your decision making powers-
Care and motivation
The important factor in taking a decision is time factor, you should know whether you have enough time to take a decision or you can slow down the process. If you must take a quick decision you should think over every possibility and long term effects of your decision. You can make a right decision only when you are absolutely aware of rules and regulations of your organization and comfortable with your superiors who will support you in adverse situations.
Team based decisions
It's better to take major decisions on mutual consensus basis while taking important decisions regarding future plans of your organization. In such cases the emphasis is kept on mutual agreement on points although every one should participate freely to put forward his opinion. The points should be discussed freely in a manner that nothing is left to chance and the matter of agenda is given proper consideration. At no point the matter should lose direction or deviate from the chosen path.

No member including team leaders should be assertive or impose their own ideas but discuss the matter at hand with free mind as per demand of the agenda. It is better to discuss pros and cons before reaching to a final decision without apprehensions of being criticized for the same. It would only be beneficial if points against and for discussed well in advance rather than regretting them later. Every one involved should try to understand each other's point of views without any hesitation to avoid misunderstandings between the persons concerned. No one should feel neglected or bullied, if you have taken a decision on cooperative basis. That is best for you and your organization.
Fact based decisions
There are certain decisions which are easy to reach on because you take them based on information and data available and their impact does not make bigger difference even if something goes wrong but some individual decisions need your concentration and decision making power on most serious level. Because these are the decisions which effects your reputation by breaking or making it. You must study every single point very carefully with every angle before reaching to a final decision. You should be able to see outcome of your decision on a broader canvas as if you were watching a movie on a cinema screen that would be the ultimate of your power of decision-making.
