problem in uploading photos

there are some problem in uploading photos in profile album.
if i upload 2 KB picture, the message flashed 'pic size limit exceeded'. but the max. size limit is 0.25 mb. can anybody suggest what is the problem?

The maximum size accepted for a picture is 256K and only known image formats are accepted.

sir u say the max size is 256 kb .but it doesn't take too 12 kb or any other format.
