A 60-year legal battle ends today. The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court will pronounce the verdict in the Ayodhya title suit in the Babri Masjid and Ram janambhoomi case.

The verdict is one of the longest running and contentious cases of independent India.

Fom 1950 onwards a total of five title suits were filed in the Allahabad High Court.

Four in favour of Hindus and One from the Sunni Waqf Board - all staking claim to the title of the plot of land of the Babri Mosque.

This might end here in this court but another is likely to start in the Supreme Court!
High alert as India gears up for Ayodhya verdict..

One lakh ninety thousand troops on the streets of UP are gearing up for a contentious verdict that has been 60 years in the coming.

The Karnataka government has banned demonstrations. Schools and colleges will remain closed for two days from Thursday. Leaves have been cancelled for police personnel and police, home guards, Karnataka State Reserve Police have all been deployed across the state -- 18,000 in Bangalore alone.

In Ludhiana, special prayers are being held to maintain peace as the country awaits the verdict.

In Gujarat, the police have stepped up vigil in all public places, including railway stations, bus terminals, shopping centres and are frisking all vehicles coming into the state.

What appears from your description is that all the state governments are in a high state of alert and rightly so!

I have a feeling that it would have been much better to have a negotiated solution to this problem!
May be Chinmoy... But I don't think the the people who have patience to sit and have a negotiation... :(

I think it's not only impatience but also the hard stand taken up by both the parties that's coming in the way!
Hmm yes... And also the political parties would try to bag some votes in every issue.
Common man would react the normal way... But the mob and political parties are of concern.
