Delhi University student raped in car

NEW DELHI: A businessman has been arrested on charges of abducting and raping a 17-year-old student of Delhi University in his car here, police said on Thursday.

The first year student was on her way back from college on Wednesday evening when Mukesh Singhal dragged her inside his Wagon R car in Moti Nagar in west Delhi, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sharad Agarwal said.

"Singhal stopped his car and asked her an address. When she responded, he pulled her inside the car and took her to an isolated place where she was raped," Agarwal told IANS.

The accused, a resident of Ashok Vihar in north Delhi, later dumped her in front of her college.

"The victim then approached the police and was taken to a hospital, where medical examination has confirmed rape," Agarwal said.

Singhal, who runs a paper producing factory, has been arrested.

    How many more of such incidents is needed to wake up the State Admin?If we,the common citizens,r not safe in Capital,how can we be safe in anywhere else??

    We are most unsafe in Delhi. Some time back Delhi Lt Governor chhibbar had rightly remarked that Delhi people take delight in breaking law. The Delhi people consider women and girls as item of consumption. so they will molest and rape whenever opportunity arises. The women organizations should take lead in tackling this problem.

    innumerable crimes happen in Delhi by using private cars. One way to curtail such crimes is to confiscate the vehicle used for such crime.

    There is no dearth of perverts.It's d admin who has to protect common citizen,be it any State.Admin can't avoid responsibility by asking people to behave responsibly & of late such incidents are really destroying Delhi.It's high time for d Admin to take d call.

    In Delhi such cases are on the rise and most commonly the perpetrators are the ones who have a lot of money and have connections with the politicians! And because they are let off easily, there is no stopping them!

    In my opinion these people should be flogged publicly and stoned by the public!!
