Sharmila Tagore and Sreedevi receive Padma awards..

I am totally confused with the Padma awards...apparently Padmashree is different and Padma Bhushan is a different category etc etc..how different I am not sure ! However, this year it was given to Sharmila Tagore ( who deserves it since she has contributed a lot ) and Sreedevi ( who has only done glamor roles from what I see) and Rahul dravid...

    Sridevi no doubt is a great actress and I think she deserves it like Sharmila Tagore. She has done lots of good roles which proved she has good acting skills. :)

    What confuses me more about the padma awards is the selection criteria, which really does not speak much about the merits or in some cases, lack of it, in the winners. It is more about 'he who lobbies the strongest, wins it'.

    Sharmila Tagore definitely deserves it but she should have being given a Padma atlest 5 years ago, its okay better late than never. Sreedevi made her debut in the film industry at the age of four. We can't say that Sreedevi has only done glam roles. She deserves the Padma and it was awarded at the right time. If she was awarded with Padma 5 years later no body would have questioned if she deserves it or not.

    I happened to write this news stuff for my client a couple of days back. There was a huge explanation about which award is given to what personality. Sorry, I didn’t pay attention enough there.

    For our generation now, Sharmila Tagore is an actress of the past. However, I still love to see her films and I don't let go the opportunity whenever I can see one on TV. She rocks!

    I agree ! There are so many yesteryears actors who have not been recognised at all, but they keep awarding only the well known popular faces just like it happens in politics and elsewhere in our country !

    Yes Padmashree and Padma Bhushan are different. If we grade these both that Padma Bhushan is A and Padmashree in B. It is right that Sridevi done only glamor role in Hindi movies but no doubt she is prefect actress. Plz watch her Sadma Movie. Earlier Sharmila Tagore was also glamours actrees. But is last days of her carrier she give her best in Aradna, Amerprem, Mousum.

    I have seen sadma and liked it a lot, but on the whole sridevi was like any other glamorous actress except a role here and there like Chandni or Lamhe ... Sharmila Tagore did every kind of role in her career and was also a very beautiful and glamorous actress of her times, still looks so elegant and graceful !

    Padmashree is for the first timers and lesser achievers while the vibhushan is for higher achievers and big guns. generally one gets vibhushan once he/she is awarded the PadmaShee previously. But these are only symbolic and governments' choice, nothing much to boast about, they can't even mention it on their name plates.
