Do you think the quality of Government schools has become better or worsened?

As long as there is a craze among the parents for private English medium schools and a low feeling towards the govt. schools, I feel the standards of these schools might not improve. Keeping aside the schools run by the central govt viz. Kendriya Vidyalays, the schools run by the state govt in most of the states are in pathetic condition and still there is a need for the improvement of the same be it the infra structure, providing the basic facilities, hygienic conditions, qualified / experienced faculty or many other such requirements. Unfortunately due to various reasons parents of even middle class / lower middle families as well are not showing interest in admitting their children in the govt schools. I feel that the govt schools run by various states govt. are yet to improve a lot and the govt needs to give priority to the education sector and try to make these govt schools at par with the private English medium schools so that the public would at least show some interest in joining their wards in these schools.

To be very pragmatic I would suggest closure of these schools. The only ones who are benefiting are worthless and useless teachers - at least a majority of them. They are not teachers - just masquerading as ones - living off very well on our money!!

I think their pay scales are based on sixth pay commission???

That the quality of education in government schools is an accepted bitter truth. As usual Government;'s inefficiency in providing necessary infra structure and inadequate teaching staff are the main reasons for their declining standards.

Exceptions are there everywhere. Schools in dreary conditions as far as educational standards are concerned outnumber the good schools in leaps and bounds

According to me, Government school condition becomes worst as before. Government hire teachers at this school, but they only make their attendance at school and go out of school. In my area, there is a government school. School headmaster teach maths, but he never take a class and take a private tuition at their house.

The condition of government schools in some states are good. But mostly these schools are in a bad shape. That's why the private schools which are very costly are gaining favor among the public.

Here too the conditions of Government school cannot be compared to that of private schools. The private schools are far ahead. But comparing to the last few decades things have somewhat improved. For instance, till last decade or so, very less percentage of students studying in Government schools could pass public examination. However, in the past few years the overall pass percentages in such schools have increased. In the past few years there were even students among the position holders.

Friends many private schools are deteriorating in their educational qualities. They have a target to do business and not the social welfare. They provide good infrastructure but poor teaching qualities. It seems as if students are buying certificates for money and not knowledge.
Compared to this, some government schools are better, especially the military schools.

How many good and Military schools are there which are maintaining good standards? They are very less. Owing to this private schools are exploiting the people. That's why even if ther fees are very high parents are preferring private schools.

The qualities of education in government shcools have improved. Many offers like free cycle, laptops are being provided for free in government schools in my region. So many poor people who denied education now prefer to go to school. Also govt is undertaking few measures like interactive learning and giving importance to sports.

I don't think Sops will raise the quality of education.

Government schools are becoming best nowadays. They are organizing many extra-curricular activities for children to improve their skills apart from studies.

Everybody knows that the quality of education of Government schools is not up to the mark. The Government recently announced a series of reforms aiming at maintaining its goodwill which involved punishing teachers who are on unauthorized absence, providing toilets to all Government schools, introduction of computers etc. But it is still not known how efficient Government schools currently are. Do you think the quality of Government schools has become better or worsened? :blink:

Quality of a school be it govt. or private should never be equated with the infrastructure alone. Quality of education is what matters. But if some govt. schools now have the provision of good and well-maintained toilets and now becoming technologically equipped..it is obviously a positive sign.

There are governments schools where teachers are taking more efforts to improve the quality of their students in studies as well as other activities. But the only aspect they need to take care is to keep their surroundings clean.

I think it is 6 months old thread. Government schools are improving their quality by appointing good teachers. Quality of education brings good result. It depends on the teacher and the student. A good teacher will analyze the student capacity and the way how to improve them. Most of the marks got by the student is not based on private or govt school it depends on the student will power and how he proved is talent in exam time.
