After about a 100 websites, including facebook, youtube, wikipedia and flikr, twitter is also banned by the pak govt.

Seems there is some fury started by Pak authorities..

Oh! twitter???

I think there are some strict rules by the government. I was aware that facebook, youtube were blocked. But doesn't know that wikipedia is also a victim...
It is a country's decission which sites to be allowed for its people if it is found harming the society's unity.
This a mad act on the part of the Pak authorities. It is noteworthy that only the totalitarian setups have problems with these sites. The ridiculous part of it is that the march of technology is fast and robust these medieval attempts seem to always backfire!!
I don't know why they have blocked wikipedia. It is not a social networking site. Instead of many sites, they can very well stop the internet connection to the country. Who knows? One day that also might happen.
They are more concerning. It is ridiculous. Blocking wikipedia is a stupid decision. They are making stupid decisions. They are going before 1000 years.
They understand the working of technology much less as they do in relation to the purpose sought to be achieved by this laughable actions.
Yes.. I too agree that blocking wikepedia is not the correct action as it is basically only an informative and educative site.
Information and education -these are the two things - fundamentalist societies dread most and that's why this presposterous action.
all I can say is - idiots. If you try to block something it will grow immensely. They will soon have software that enable them to have these services offline. It is available in the Gulf region already particularly in the Soudies.
Internet is a platform for free and frank sharing of views by all citizens. The autocratic regimes like Pakistan do not like. My suggestion to them is- ban internet. Banning just a few websites will not help.
One day they may even think of doing so - throwing the baby with the bathwater!!!
May be some vasted interest of the Govt is there in doing so. By the way UAE has banned google and its associates sites long ago.
