Now, women in distress can call Bescom helpline

Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje on Wednesday announced that the 24x7 helpline (22873333) of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) will now function as helpline for women too.

Hoping that such systems work for the safety of woman earlier some measures were taken which failed miserably. I know one case that happened in B'lore. A girl student was trapped in a compound wall collapse. She with great help tried to contact the police helpline through her mobile, but there was no response. The girl died. Next day it was known that the entire police force was deployed for the security of a visiting VIP on that day. Thats why her call for help was not attended.
