Most government schools are in pathetic condition with absolutely no maintenance ,proper staff or sanitation facilities. It is little wonder that when you have a better option with private schools , very few people opt for a government school unless the very patriotic or those who cannot hope for anything better ?
The link is for schools in Bangalore , but I am sure it is the same all over the country..

The condition of schools run by municipalities is no good. But the Kendriya Vidyalaya are being run well by central government. In U.P., the Govt. Inter colleges are also run well. However we may expect the government schools only to run moderately well. It is enough if they impart just quality education. They cannot compete the private schools in terms of furniture and other facilities. The private schools are of, by and for the super rich, who have arranged these only for maintaining their class.

Yes, i agree.
Earlier, parents were not at all keen in the education of students. Now all are opting for English medium private schools. When Government schools are not ready to upgrade according to situation, students are gradually decreasing.
As every government sector of India, what will happen, even if we complain against them??? Nothing!!!!!

There is no need to give too many facilities, but I have seen many schools in villages with just 2 or 3 teachers managing the entire primary school. The building is basically a hall and each class is spread out at various corners and the teachers keep hopping from one corner(class) to the other.I am sure that they can do better than that, at least have decent buildings and enough staff ..

If we go to high range areas, there may be only one school running with 2-3 teachers and 10-15 students. They are successfully working also, since they can't find any alternatives. So, since a lot of schools are available in our towns, no one is taking that much care to provide basic necessities of government schools

Sandhya, we are paying for those schools run by the government in the form of taxes , so where does that money go? Dont they have the moral responsibility to see that it reaches the people from whom they collect it in the first place ..

Corruption!!1 What else!!!!
Even government schools are not free from that

Government schools offer meals for kids. But fund of majority of those food items go to many authorities' pockets, as only a few kids are in need of a school meal.

Honestly, even providing decent buildings , and staff is more than enough for those village schools.I was surprised to see how interested some of those little children were in reading books and gaining knowledge...But when you see the pathetic state of their school you really feel bad. In some city schools where every little comfort is provided the only thing lacking is the lack of interest by the students to study and perform well..

Condition of government schools in Paschim Banga is also very poor.
Study materials which government sanction for children are thrown away into the dust bins. Money for the development of schools, get vanished somewhere. Worst quality of teaching is also a drawback.
Moreover, anti-social elements burry mid-day meal into the ground. Later they black market it.

I think it is the same all over India.Education ,earlier was run by the Convents and now by private organisations.Politicians of course are happy since it gives them an opportunity to make money by showing false accounts spent on government schools ...
